A potential witness in a case may be prohibited from the courtroom, listening to testimony of others, until they have finished their own testimony. It's called "The Rule" and it's enforced if either side wants to enforce it on a potential witness. It's unfortunate that it will get in the way of CM's family and what they would prefer, but it's the law so that's just how it is. It is a law with a valid purpose, which is to try to prevent a witness from intentionally or unintentionally "tailoring" their testimony to better fit with what has already been said by other witnesses under oath.
