And maybe....if you're talking about yourself (EA) no proof needed. You can say whatever you want about yourself and no one's going to sue you for that.
If you're talking about someone else (JM), proof is needed because then they would be subject to slander/libel? I don't know. I'm just guessing.

In the example I gave, the guy was not talking about himself, but rather, what someone else did and said and it was very slanderous. He had zero proof. It could put the other person in harms way and his career in jeopardy if true. Again, he had zero proof other than his mouth, but the media aired it because people tuned in to one of the accusers on TV.

In this case JM is talking about EA and what he did and didn't do. MOO is that they didn't ask for proof. I don't think she has any, other than the words that LE has told her.

Just to clarify, so I don't get attacked...what I mean is proof that she can turn over to the media.

I would think if we're all concerned and worried about libel and slander then someone needs to get Jodi Arias to shut her trap about Travis. If anyone has been slandering and liableing its her. His relatives should file a suit against her honestly..JMO

OT. When my son studied journalism at Columbia he was taught that to run an investigative story you had to have 2 sources (independent) for verification before story could run. Unfortunately, that hasn't been true for a long time. Sensationalism seems to be the operative word today in news reporting.

If I, as a reporter state something, and present it as fact, then yes I need verification before putting it in print (newspaper) or on the air (radio, TV). Any good editor is going to ask, "And you verified this how?" However, if I quote someone expressing something and it is clearly a quote, the burden of proof may shift to the interviewee.
