Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said investigators are examining surveillance video at the Motel 6 at Interstate 10 and Highway 146 where McDowell’s black Mercedes Class-C was later found as Harvey’s floodwaters were rising.
“The Motel 6 video is very inadequate,” Hawthorne said. “We are scouring hours of video. The time frame is so big. We essentially have to watch three days worth of video from each camera (from area businesses). One business may have four cameras to watch, it is taking hours to look through them. I have about a third of my team doing nothing but watching videos.”

“‘Loving’ and ‘caring’ are the two words that her friends and family use the most when talking about Crystal,” Edwards said. “A devoted mother, Crystal had recently divorced and was looking forward to a new future. She had recently started working as a real estate agent and still held her part-time position with an airline company. We are interviewing everyone involved in this case. We have had a witness come forward who has led us to believe that there are more eyewitnesses that saw what happened at that Motel 6. It is my only hope that they will do the right thing and come forward with information that will bring Crystal home.”
Edwards was contacted to see if she could elaborate on the witnesses but was unable to return calls.
BBM. I've been thinking the Motel 6 is a red herring, but the sheriff is concentrating on 3 days of video from the Motel and the PI says they have a witness who says other witnesses "saw what happened".
