Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said investigators are examining surveillance video at the Motel 6 at Interstate 10 and Highway 146 where McDowell’s black Mercedes Class-C was later found as Harvey’s floodwaters were rising.

“The Motel 6 video is very inadequate,” Hawthorne said. “We are scouring hours of video. The time frame is so big. We essentially have to watch three days worth of video from each camera (from area businesses). One business may have four cameras to watch, it is taking hours to look through them. I have about a third of my team doing nothing but watching videos.”
The private investigator, Carla Edwards, owns and is the Chief Investigator for Unlimited Investigation and Research Service in Liberty.

“‘Loving’ and ‘caring’ are the two words that her friends and family use the most when talking about Crystal,” Edwards said. “A devoted mother, Crystal had recently divorced and was looking forward to a new future. She had recently started working as a real estate agent and still held her part-time position with an airline company. We are interviewing everyone involved in this case. We have had a witness come forward who has led us to believe that there are more eyewitnesses that saw what happened at that Motel 6. It is my only hope that they will do the right thing and come forward with information that will bring Crystal home.”

Edwards was contacted to see if she could elaborate on the witnesses but was unable to return calls.

BBM. I've been thinking the Motel 6 is a red herring, but the sheriff is concentrating on 3 days of video from the Motel and the PI says they have a witness who says other witnesses "saw what happened".

I think because the time on the water picture says 7am, which would have been before Crystal left the apartment. Also, maybe because the photo she allegedly snapped and sent from his store that morning. Her real estate billboard.

Here's my guess. If she took the picture and sent it (something like 7:23 or whenever it was) and he was posting the water picture from the store at 7am, it would show he was not at home in the shower, but rather at the store when she got there and took the picture.

Is that relevant in that context? Maybe because he said he was home at that time, not at the store.

Overall, I don't think it's relevant because, as others said, the time stamp appears to be different based on which time zone you're viewing it from. So, if I'm on the east coast -- which I am -- if I see the stamp as say 10am, that would mean he actually posted it at 9 of he is in central time zone (which I think he is) or what have you.

For the record, when I look at the photo, the time stamp says 9am, which means he posted it at 8am central time.

He could have posted that water picture from home using a home computer, or from home using a work computer or from anywhere else. Why does he have to be at the physical place of work. He could just log in from anywhere to whatever site he uses.

If they do have an "eye witness" and they don't think it is random, why no arrest?

7-ish am is really early for a random carjacking, isn't it? I know crimes happen at all times, but something like this??

JMO, maybe not enough evidence yet? PI was asking for others to come forward. It's possible this "witness" didn't see anything but heard about something that happened second hand and they need to track down the actual people who saw something. They also talked to two people seen near the car who were found to have had nothing to do with the car. Maybe those 2 people were not the right ones (mistaken identity?) and there are 2 other people who DID have something to do with the car. IDK. :dunno:

He was worried that if her body was near water the hurricane could have dragged her anywhere and would make it very hard to find her.

Coming in late, may I ask who "he" is , and could anyone clarify this statement? Just trying to catch up. TIA :)

Where did the quote "that saw what happened" come from? Is there a link? TIA

Link is under the quote from the article. Sorry I did edit my comment slightly. She doesn't say the witness saw what happened, she says they are led to believe others saw what happened.

I'm really shocked he said that. I didn't get to see the show. Anyone have a link to the clip? TIA.

Thanks. I read the article at the link and thought maybe the quote came from another article.

A car-jacker would not have dumped her car at a motel, jmo. Especially right near where she would have been attacked at a light or whatever.

I think lonetraveller was just pointing out that it's not that uncommon as companies do indeed demand employees park their vehicles in the "drive out" position in the parking lot.

Last place I worked it wasn't a request or suggestion...it was a rule.

Same here. You always back in at a plant.

Not sure where the confusion came from but it's in the Baytown Sun article here: http://baytownsun.com/news/article_65179206-93b4-11e7-b6f3-d3aa6c6b412c.html

That's Carla Edwards, the PI hired by the uncle speaking.

I don't, but the transcripts should be available tomorrow sometime. You can check Ashleigh Banfield's FB page and see if there's a clip there. FB is being difficult for me tonight.

It could have even been a scheduled post - considering the post was exactly on the hour.
