The alleged gunman who opened fire on paramedics in East Dallas late Monday morning was found dead in a home Dallas Police searched after the shooting, sources told WFAA's Rebecca Lopez.

Looks like presser also at this link. The one posted above is for the UT Austin stabbings. What a sad day.

ETA: Can't keep up with all this on mobile. I think some stations are covering both UT and Dallas pressers.

Think we will hold off on the title update until more outlets are reporting the gunman is dead etc. Recalling earlier when "sources" told another outlet the paramedic had died. Turned out to not be accurate.

A police robot searched a home Monday near the scene of a shooting in Old East Dallas that critically wounded a Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic and a neighbor discovered the body of a man believed to be the shooter, and another dead person inside, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said.
The man believed to be the shooter was dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Rawlings said.

Dallas police said during a news conference Monday afternoon the initial shooting in the Dolphin Heights neighborhood was sparked by a dispute between neighbors along the 3200 block of Reynolds Avenue at about 11:30 a.m.

Dallas police officers arrived at the scene moments later and spotted the DFR ambulance and the injured medic lying in the street.

The sergeant then put the medic in his patrol car and drove him to the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, saving the medic's life, Pughes said.

The identity of the paramedic has not been released, but DFR said the medic is an 11-year veteran of the department.

On a serious note, that's 18 kids - like an entire classroom - who lost their dad, and will live with the questions and trauma of what he did.

A gunman opened fire on emergency responders treating a gunshot victim in a Dallas street on Monday, critically injuring a paramedic and prompting police to lock down the area for hours until the suspect – and another person – were found dead inside a home, authorities say.

The injured Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic remains in critical but stable condition and was moved to the ICU after undergoing surgery. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said the paramedic will need additional surgeries and extensive medical treatment to fully recover.

Multiple sources within Dallas Fire-Rescue tell NBC 5 that the injured paramedic is William An. He is based out of Station 19, where firefighters are highly-trained members of the Urban Search and Rescue Unit.
