TX TX - Deanna Merryfield, 13, Killeen, 22 July 1990 - #1

Jules!!! So many questions!
I'm pretty sure Sgt.D knows about WS. I just sent him an email asking him if he would tell us if she's still alive and wanted no contact with us-so we'll see. My family does know we're searching for her-they are trying to help. Not sure what happened with the KDH thread. Not sure if Bekki still knows how to contact that DA, I will see. Sgt.D is the one who said it may end up a murder case but that was before he foudn the tattoo lead. I am not afraid of those in Killeen. I was worried when i thought it was possibly a murder case and maybe people didn't want me digging. Not sure if Deanna would know our Grandmas maiden name, but she does knwo the name she uses which is merryfield.

How is the name spelled on the birth record for Deanna? Shouldn't hers and Bekki's be the same since they are twins?
As far as the tattoo shoppes-not sure where to start. Wouldn't their be thousands? TX is a big place and there's no way of knowing where she got it, so how would we figure it out, since they were done at a minimum 14yrs ago?

Very true about the tattoo shops. I guess I was thinking of starting in Dallas around 1995, but we have no way of knowing where she was before that, so it is a needle in a haystack. I would love to see some of the old websleuthers back here helping us out--where are you guys??? As far as your mother, I do not want to post her name here without your ok, but on Deannas, her name is spelled with two R's. I too was confused about that, as Bekkis lists your mothers name one way(with one R), but Deannas is spelled differently. I wonder if she did a birth certificate request and misspelled it, and that is what was placed in the records. I wonder if there is a way to see if she has requested a copy of her birth cert? Sgt D might be able to look into that with the state of TX. I wish Sgt D could understand that we are not the enemy, we want to help, and may find something that he does not have time to research. Since we are volunteers, we do this in our own time and do not have hundreds of other cases that we are getting paid to solve, like he does.

I believe Sgt.D has checked to see if there were any requests for her birth certificate and SSN and nothing came up. That is odd about the two R's but I supoose stranger things have happened.

I have been thinking more about the protective custody theory and NSS please know I mean you no offense. I want you to keep the theories coming! However, I have to wonder if they would be so willing to have her pic and info up on the NCMEC and NCIC if they were trying to "hide" her-wouldn't that be counterproductive? Just thinking out loud here.

On a different search, there are only six Deanna's that come up under the whole country, with her exact birthdate. One of those if the FL one I pmed you. The others are:

Deanna C Johnson- From Georgia
Deanna Nokes-Las Vegas, NV
Deanna T Grant- Chicago, IL, IA, and IN
Deanna L Blunt- Michigan
Deanna K Johnson- AL

So we should try to take these names and see if we can find marriage certs for them? Is that how we should move forward here?

You guys are doing awesome work and I am happy to see this renewed interest in Deanna's case.

Thanks Salem! I think we need to start with the FL. one and work from there as it seems to be the one with most possibility.

  • #807
Missie, have you tried to make contact with the FL lead?

BTW, i don't post much, but have kept up with your search and wish you the best. It was one of the first ones I started following.

Raindrops, I have not but Sgt.D did and said it is not Deanna

This is a very good thought Missy! and probably rules out the protective custody issue. I think you are entirely right. NSS - it was a good theory and worth consideration. Every theory, is like every unidentified - every one you can rule out will bring you closer to the true one.

Okay guys, I've been trying to get on here, but my husband took the whole week off of work so it makes it kinda hard, lol. Please excuse me for not being on so much this week!!

That's ok hon, I was feeling guilty because I have not been here too much either with the end of the school yr, Memorial Day weekend etc. We get here when we can, right?

I think we should concentrate on the 1995 sighting in the Dallas area. "Someone" used her name and birthdate, so we have to assume it was her.

Do you have any family or family friends in the Dallas area?

Yay, I'm on for now. Hubby had to run in to work for the day-stuff that can't wait.

I don't know of any family or friends in Dallas. Amy lived there for a while but that was well after Deanna left and she has been back in the central tx area for quite a while now.
We did receive some news from Sgt.D. I don't really want to get into details for the sake of peoples privacy but we can definitely confirm that Deanna has never contacted her biodad. That's all I will say about that.
I will try to get on again later but no promises because it's much easier to clean with hubby out of the house, lol

Thank you Jules!!! Sorry I haven't been on. Apparently the word has gotten out that I like dogs and now everyone and their mother is dropping their pups off for me to watch while they go on vacation.
So, we are still waiting for the age progression. Sgt. D says it's up to the artist to get it completed so we just have to sit and wait. I asked Sgt. D if he would tell us if Deanna was alive and just didn't want to be contacted and he said he would tell us and he would have to close the case. So I suppose we would know, lol. Sgt.D still strongly believes that Deanna is alive and he says he will continue to believe that until proven otherwise.

I live North of Dallas and would be happy to help with any legwork in Dallas. Just need someone to steer me in the right direction.

Dogs are cute but a handful! Well, FWIW, I think she is alive too. Call it a gut feeling. I think that we should post everything that we currently know about her (like a synopsis), we may find find something new that we did not notice before. Noexcuse, thank you for the offer, we can use all the help we can get, we just have to put our heads together to see what we need to have you look for...

I just posted to another missing persons thread and I think that we all get an instinctual feel for these missing person cases.

I can honestly say that I agree with you Salem. I have not seen any indication not to believe she is alive, well and out there. I'm praying that she stumbles across the information that is out here on the internet about her and contacts Missie. :praying:

Thank you all for the encouraging words!!
Noexcuse-I will certainly be taking you up on your offer as soon as I get my hands on the final age progression!! If it doesn't happen within the next couple months (trying so hard to be patient with it but patience is NOT one of my strengths) we can just forget about it and get flyers up with her old pics.
What info do you think we should post Jules-just the facts or theories too?

I have no gut instinct as far as all of it goes. I would absolutely LOVE to believe that she is alive but I just can't fathom a 13 yr old walking away and never contacting family again-maybe because I don't want to believe that she wants nothing to do with us.

Missie there is one possibility that I have thought of over the years since learning about Deanna but before I came to WS and of course met you through this site.

It is possible, very possible given where we are...that she met a soldier.

Keep in mind that Soldiers can be as young as 17 or 18. Well within the age range for young love.

Have you considered this before and what conclusion did you come to? TIA

  • #820
The only thing wrong with that theory is that if she had met and married a soldier, wouldn't she have needed to use her SS#? For paperwork and benefits and that sort of thing, even if she were never employed per se? I thought she had never used her SS#.
