[h=1]Police continue investigation into body found at Denton landfill[/h]
Denton police are investigating a body that was found Monday afternoon at the Denton landfill in the 1500 block of South Mayhill Road.

A Denton County coroner said the man was wearing a jacket and several pairs of shirts, pants and socks. He didn't have any forms of identification and appeared to be homeless, the coroner said.

The man's head was disfigured, the coroner said, but there's not enough evidence to classify the death as a homicide. He said it's unclear how long the body had been inside the facility.

The body is scheduled for an autopsy Tuesday morning at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office, officials said.

Disfigured but not enough to be classified as a homicide? I'm not quite sure what this could in tell

He was found in a landfill. They think he might have been in a dumpster and transported there by a dump truck. Damage to his face could have been done by the truck or by equipment used to move garbage around at the landfill. This could be an accident if he was homeless and sleeping in a dumpster. Or it could be a case of someone died on the streets and fellow homeless or addicts put him in the dumpster. They will probably know more after the autopsy. JMO.

[h=1]Man found dead at Denton landfill left behind family in Oklahoma City[/h]

Amy Ortiz doesn't know why her father may have been sleeping in a dumpster in Denton.

Her father, 47-year-old Ramon Ortiz, was found dead Monday at the city landfill. He left behind a family in Oklahoma City about three years ago after separating from his wife. He often cooked for them and took his three kids on trips to Texas, where they visited aquariums and zoos.

Even after he moved to Fort Worth on his own around 2014, Amy Ortiz said she talked to him every week until about nine months ago.
Suddenly, she couldn't contact him by phone and stopped hearing from him, she said.

She last heard about her father three months ago from one his brothers, who said he was working as a painter for a construction company and doing well in Fort Worth. To the best of Amy's and the brother's knowledge, Ramon Ortiz had been working in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as recently as two weeks ago.

She can't piece together how his body ended up at the Pratt Industries Recycling Facility at the Denton landfill on Monday afternoon.

Denton police say a worker found an unidentified body in a sleeping bag while sifting through recycling items Monday at the facility on South Mayhill Road. Authorities announced Wednesday they had identified the man as Ramon Ortiz.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled Ortiz's death an accident. Medical investigators said he died from crush injuries to the head, chest and abdomen due to entrapment in a dump truck.
