HOUSTON - The man charged in the beating death of his girlfriend's daughter, 4-year-old Emma Thompson, is no longer in the Harris County Jail.

Lucas Ruric Coe, a 27-year-old convicted felon with multiple priors was released on $100,000 bond on Friday morning.

includes video of Coe

OMG, why was bond even set for this monster? I hope the mother of the other children protects them from him while he is out. Knowing he may go to jail for the rest of his life just may give him the incentive to finish what he started on them. (jmo)

As a rule, judges don't comment on ongoing cases. But legal analyst Joel Androphy believes the judge may have set a $100,000 bond, believing Coe would never be able to pay it. Or, he said, the judge may have doubts about the strength of the evidence.

Both of these supposed reasons just made my jaw drop! I can't see any responsible judge changing bond for either of those reasons in this case (no disrespect to Mr Androphy's opinion) Surely there must have been something more compelling?

Media, if you are reading here, please hunt him down and let the public know where he is hanging out-not because I want him lynched of course because that would be just wrong, but because someone has to keep a close eye on someone who has proven themselves to be extremely dangerous to children.

Suspect in Spring girl's death back in jail
By TERRI LANGFORD Houston Chronicle
Sept. 14, 2009, 12:49P

One of the suspects in the injuries leading to death of a 4-year-old Spring girl is back in jail today after he failed to take a urine test.

Lucas Coe, 27, and his girlfriend Abigail Young, 33, were both arrested last month for the injuries that may have resulted in the death of Emma Thompson.

Coe posted his $100,000 bond last Friday but was brought back before state District Judge Mary Lou Keel this morning, apparently to have more conditions placed on his release, said Bert Steinmann, Coe's attorney.

But before Keel could place those conditions on Coe, he was ordered by the judge to submit to a urine test.

“She never got to it,” Steinmann said of this morning's hearing. “She ordered him to go down and do a UA (urine analysis).

Because Coe could not or would not provide a sample, Keel revoked his bond and ordered him back into the Harris County jail.

“His failure to urinate caused her to revoke his bond,” Steinmann said.

The move seemed somewhat puzzling because last week, Keel ordered only one condition on Coe's release: that he not come into contact with any children.

Steinmann said his client has a medical condition that prevents him from urinating on command. He said his client would be glad to submit to other forms of drug and alcohol testing.

Thank Heavens!!

I'm glad he's back in jail.

Are we supposed to feel bad that he has a condition that doesn't allow him to urinate "on demand"? I can't believe the lawyer even said that!

I cannot tell you how happy I am that Coe has a shy bladder.

It infuriates me though that the same judge that released him also denied having him tested for herpes.....:furious:

Young was released on $50,000 bond several days after her arrest, but Coe was held without bond until last week when District Judge Mary Lou Keel placed him under $100,000 bond, according to the Chronicle.

Coe was also ordered to have no contact with any children, but Keel called Coe back into court Monday, apparently to place more restrictions on his release, the newspaper reported today.

Keel ordered Coe to submit to a urine test, but because he would not or could not do so, the judge revoked his bail and ordered that he be returned to the Harris County jail, according to the report

Coe remained there this morning, a check of Harris County jail records showed.

His attorney, Bert Steinmann, told the Chronicle that Coe has a medical condition that prevented him from providing a urine sample but that his client was prepared to submit to other forms of testing such as blood sampling.

Authorities said Thompson had a skull fracture, signs of sexual abuse and bruising over her body. She also had genital herpes.

Coe has denied that he is the source of the genital herpes.

You all, I am sorry if I seem really rude or ignorant when I've responded to this thread, I don't mean to sound that way.

I am appalled that a man who brutalized and tortured more than one child (allegedly) has a lawyer who has the nerve to present a silly argument like, "My client can't make pee-pee on demand", we have a Sheltie Dog that can whiz whenever you tell him to! It's so ludicrous, in my opinion. Administer a catheter and gather his pee! Or would that be against his rights or be "cruel and unusual punishment"?

Did he care about the children's rights that he violated? Did he give one rat's azz? And the general public is expected to have more "regard" because it shows that justice takes a high road or something like that? I don't understand the reasoning. I'm angry. I'm angry for Emma and all the children who have been exposed to the likes of people like Coe and Abigail, the woman who has the nerve to call herself a mother.

All the cases we read here and elsewhere are sad, I don't know why Emma reached out and grabbed me the way she has. Perhaps it's her innocent eyes in the photos we've seen? Perhaps it's her sweet smiling face in the photos we've seen? I don't know what it is, but I know that from the day I read "her story", I need to see her case resolved. I know there will be resolution, I know her siblings will be safe.

ETA: Even if Coe didn't give her Herpes (there are other ways it can move from mouth to privates), can Coe or Abigail explain the injuries to her body? Seriously, pull out the superglue and call it a day? WTF?

My gut feeling about Coe not providing a urinalysis sample is that he (or his attorney) didn't want the nurse administering the test to see his "private parts". It's usually pretty standard that the nurse watches while they urinate. My thoughts are that there may be lesions / blisters, etc. on a certain body part that would indicate he has a medical condition.

Just my OPINION. This is speculation only -- I'm not saying he has a STD - I'm just disclaiming any inside information so his attorney won't try to subpoenae my username records.

You have a very logical gut! Very good theory.

Can't the prosecutation/DA force him to have a STD test?

BoyzMom...you go girl!! How I agree. I wonder if he had been doing drugs too which would have shown up. I love the superglue comment. Gorilla Glue is fantastic. I hope he goes in the general population in jail!!
