GUILTY TX - Emma Thompson, 4, dies with STD, skull fracture, Spring, 27 June 2009

Sounds like he is detoxing to me...that is a whole lot of anti anxiety meds...JMO

Does his use of Dr prescribed anti-anxiety or depression meds open up a lawsuit against drug manufacturers (and/or) a "not guilty" possibility in this case? What do you (or anyone else) think?

Do they look at how long he's been taking the meds? Is it possible since the last time the judge ordered a urinalysis he's just started taking these meds (either to detox OR because he needed to be "on something legal" to prove his innocense?)

I apologize for the dense sounding questions, I just pray there is no wiggle room for this person OR anyone like him.

CPS now must give details on victims
Information will be released soon after a child's death

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6637942.html

....Now, within five days of a child abuse death, the agency will have to provide the child's gender, age, date of death, and whether the child was in a foster home or living with a parent or guardian or someone else at the time of death. Law enforcement agencies typically release the names of deceased children, once relatives are notified.

Also, CPS will now have 10 days to produce a report to the public after the agency completes its own investigation into how the child died.

That 10-day report will include whether abuse was a factor in the child's death, a summary of previous abuse reports and those report results, and a description of any services offered to the victim's family before the death.

The law is the third attempt by state Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio, to get this information regularly released to the public......

Bail reset for suspect in Spring girl's death

State District Judge Mary Lou Keel set bail for Lucas Coe at $300,000.

“I have no reason to believe he'll make that bond,” said Bert Steinmann, Coe's attorney.

I cannot believe she gave him bond wether he can make it or not.

They didn't think he could make bond the first time, right?

I wish they could set bond at a trillion dollars, in some cases. I don't know anyone who could come up with a fraction of that.

State District Judge Mary Lou Keel set bail Friday for Lucas Coe at $300,000.

Last month, Keel set bail for Coe at $100,000/ But she revoked the bail a few days later after Coe failed to take a court-ordered urine test.

Coe, who had claimed a medical condition kept him from providing the sample, eventually complied, and on Friday, his bail was reset to $300,000, an amount his attorney says will be tough to meet.

Friday, October 02, 2009 | 4:35 PM

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Spring man accused of beating to death his girlfriend's daughter is back in custody, and his bond has been tripled.

Last month Coe was given a $100,000 bond but that was revoked after he failed to give a urine sample for drug testing. But Coe's attorney claims Coe is on a drug that prevents him from urinating. The judge called it a 'willful violation of the court's order,' and gave him a new bond of $300,000.

Coe’s bond reset at $300k

From staff reports

Updated: 10.05.09

Bond for the Magnolia man accused in the beating death of a 4-year-old child was reset to $300,000 Friday by a Harris County district court judge.

Lucas Coe, 27, was released from the Harris County Jail last month after his bond of $100,000 was posted. But Coe was ordered back to jail a couple of days later after he failed to take a urine test ordered by 232nd District Court Judge Mary Lou Keel.

Coe’s attorney, Bert Steinmann, of The Woodlands, previously said a combination of prescription medication affected his client’s ability to take a test. Coe later provided a sample for a private investigation firm, and Keel reset his bond at $300,000.

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy said Coe was in jail as of Saturday afternoon. Steinmann was unavailable for comment.

Judge sets Coe’s bond at $300,000

Published: Monday, October 5, 2009 1:35 PM CDT

A man charged in the death of a 4-year-old girl remained in Harris County jail today under $300,000 bond set last week by a district judge.

Lucas Coe will likely be unable to post that amount, said his attorney, Bert Steinmann.

Coe and co-defendant Abigail Young were charged with felony injury of a child in the death of Young’s 4-year-old daughter, Emma Thompson.

Thompson died June 27. Authorities said the child had more than 80 bruises and a fractured skull, signs of being sexually abused and genital herpes.

Coe and Young, who had been dating, were arrested Aug. 14.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the mom is still out on bond?

IMO, she is equally accountable for what happened to her precious daughter, is she less of a threat to society than Coe?

Woinder if she has been required to submit urine samples.

Texas Sen. Jane Nelson: Do deaths of Arlington toddler, 3 others signal wider CPS problem?

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcon...lddeath_06met.ART.State.Edition2.41edb0c.html

"Sen. Jane Nelson noted that Darrell "Tre" Singleton III is one of at least four Texas children who have died in recent months after Child Protective Services began monitoring their families.

"CPS has been under scrutiny for failing to take appropriate action," she said in a written statement, "and we need to determine if this is an isolated problem or more widespread."

Nelson, R-Flower Mound, is chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services and has led past efforts to give the agency more resources."

Judge Denies Request For Removal

POSTED: Wednesday, October 14, 2009
UPDATED: 2:17 pm CDT October 14, 2009

HOUSTON -- A judge denied a motion Wednesday to remove herself from the case surrounding the death of a 4-year-old girl in southeast Houston.

Emma Thompson died on June 27. She was beaten and showed signs of sexual abuse. Court records show that Emma had 80 bruises on her body, a fractured skull, broken ribs and herpes on her genitals and mouth.

Two weeks before Emma's death, CPS found that the girl had a sexually transmitted disease.

Emma's mother and her boyfriend, Lucas Coe, are accused of giving Emma injuries that may have caused her death.

=============

I don't recall that it's been previously reported that Emma had broken ribs. I do remember reading that a passerby administered CPR - wonder if the broken ribs were caused by the abuse, or rescusitation attempts?

Although I am new here, I've always been a reader of true crime. Even after years of reading it...some stories just break your heart. This is one of them. Who to hate the most...the 🤬🤬🤬 who committed the acts or the "mother" who let it happen??? As a mother myself, I know within every inch of my being that my job is to love, teach, and protect my child. How does it happen that some woman become mothers, without the presence of a heart and/or soul?

I am waiting patiently for these charges to be upgraded in this case...

COE LAWYERS ASK JUDGE TO REMOVE HERSELF

(OCTOBER 1TH, 2009)

Lawyers for Lucas Coe, the man accused of causing the death of 4-year old Emma Thompson, want the judge to recuse herself. Lucas Coe remains behind bars on charges that he caused the death of Emma Thompson on June 27th. She had been beaten and showed signs of sexual abuse. Court records show that Emma had 80 bruises on her body, a fractured on her body, a fractured skull, broken ribs and herpes on her genitals and mouth.

Coe’s lawyers wanted Judge Mary Lou Keel to recuse herself because they believe she might have been influenced by public outrage over her initial decision to grant Coe a $100,000 bond. She later revoked the bond. The Judge said she revoked the bond because Coe refused to give a urine sample.

The defense also claims Keel unfairly advised prosecutors from the bench.

A hearing about the judge’s removal has been set for October 28th.

Maybe the judge should recuse herself. This animal should not have been out on the streets, to begin with! The man is accused of a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE crime, bond is set, he bonds out and violates the rules, set by the court. Now, he gets another chance?

Many child deaths come despite CPS visits
By TERRI LANGFORD
Oct. 21, 2009, 11:12PM

Nearly half of all Texas children killed by abuse belonged to families previously investigated by Texas Child Protective Services — a statistic that has shown no improvement since 2004, despite efforts to save more children, records show.

Each year, about 200 children die of abuse or neglect in Texas — at least1,227 since 2004, according to records obtained by the Houston Chronicle. That's 516 children who died who came from families with CPS histories.

They include Kati Earnest, 5, dead on July 4, from a beating.

Darrell “Tre” Singleton III, 1, left unattended for hours in a car on Sept. 3. Dead from exposure to 95 degree heat.

Emma Thompson, 4, sexually abused. Dead on June 27 from a beating.

In these child deaths, just three among the hundreds, prior visits to their families and homes by CPS investigators failed to detect potentially fatal warning signs.

OMG Curious - that is horrible. Half of these deaths could have and SHOULD have been prevented. I'm so sad.

Does Texas have a CASA program? Is there a CASA involved in every CPS case? There should be!

Absolutely heartbreaking.........

This makes me totally sick. The "sissy" courts we have won't agree with the sentence I'd give the 🤬🤬🤬 boyfriend and the so-called "mother"...a bullet to the brain. CPS already knew the 4 year-old girl had herpes, for Christ's-sake, and they left her in the home! There is no excuse for this!
