The same jury will return to court Tuesday to begin considering a punishment for Young, which could range from probation to 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors had asked the jury to convict Young of a more serious first-degree felony, which would have made her eligible for a life sentence.

wish she'd gotten more but better than nothing.....

That same reporter states 2 to 20 years. Sentencing begins tomorrow. :waitasec: will there be statements by family, friends?

Harris County jury today returned a guilty verdict against the mother of a 4-year-old girl who died after prosecutors say the woman stood by while her boyfriend beat and raped the child.

Jurors deliberated about four hours before finding Abigail Young guilty of injury to a child by recklessness, resulting in serious bodily injury, in the death of Emma Thompson last summer. The same jury will return to court Tuesday to begin considering a punishment for Young, which could range from probation to 20 years in prison.

Geez, just 20 years max sentence for standing by and watching your monster-boyfriend do this to your precious daughter??!! Someone mentioned she could get life; is this article inaccurate? Or does the jury recommend and then the judge can make final decision?

Rest in peace sweet, beautiful Emma!

Well yes, of course she was found guilty. I am disappointed that she wasnt nailed with the omission charge, but we did not see the evidence. That is fair as I can be at the moment.

I am goint to write the board in TX to make sure her license is pulled post haste.

The reality of it all certainly hits when a verdict is reached. I feel so incredibly sad for Emma and for what could have been for her. We'll never know what she might have endured and for how long. Wish I could feel elated at the guilty verdict, and I'm sure I will later, but right now, all I feel is sad for the little one who was lost.

RIP little Emma!

YOUNG FOUND GUILTY OF LESSER CHARGE

(JULY 12, 2010)

A Houston jury has found Brenham native Abigail Young guilty of of recklessly causing injury to a child by omission in the death of her 4-year old daughter

Young was found guilty on a lesser charge and carries with it a sentence of 2 to 20 years behind bars.

Young's daughter, Emma Thompson, died in June of last year. An autopsy revealed massive injuries including a skull fracture, internal bleeding, and evidence of sexual assault. Young claimed at the time that the four year old had fallen. But expert witnesses gave testimony that none of the Emma’s injuries were consistent with her mother's story.
