Why am I not surprised. This entire case has not been anything but a total travesty. Stall, stall, stall!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, this mistake is on the court. If the Couchs had crappy lawyers, the court would be able to get away with not notifying, but they don't. They have good ones.

You'd think someone would have given this hearing a little extra oversight, since it is so very public.

According to nbcdfw news broadcast, the hearing is now scheduled for 2/19/16. I wonder if mom & dad can be subpoenaed to appear at that hearing lest they 'accidently forget' again? Then if they failed to appear they could be held in contempt.

Could it be possible that mother and son will point the finger at each other in another attempt to get off without any consequences for their actions?

“Lawyers for Couch want the proceedings in Fort Worth to come to a halt, arguing the case should not go forward because he is not present. They say he may have been abducted by his mother.”

EC's attorney says documents have been filed to drop the legal fight in Mexico. We are getting conflicting reports from MSM. I think that they are as confused as the rest of us.

This "family" continues to make a mockery of our criminal justice system. Then again, they're proving that there is justice for criminals (rather than true victims) JMO.

ec is about as much of a victim as kidnapping as the sky is red. :cow:

:please: let the madness stop!!!

Since Mexico was dragging their heels (on purpose no doubt), EC finally seems to have caught on that he was being "jailed" in Mexico indefinitely, and the US might be a better deal....

According to nbcdfw video it was the Juvenile Court who failed to notify Ethan's parents of today's hearing. It was probably someone who was a friend of Judge Boyd, IMO.

It doesn't seem to me that anyone did this on purpose - this just makes the court look inept.

I am curious, though, that the court would be expected to be able to notify the mother, who they knew for a fact was unreachable - they were trying to locate both Ethan and his mother. I'm not sure how they were to serve her with notice if they were fully aware she was missing and they had no good address for her.

But my second questions is this. Although this is a case that was adjudicated in juvenile court, the subject of this hearing is now an adult. I'm surprised the court is required to notify the parents of an adult of a pending hearing. Additionally, it does seem they were able to notify the father, as he isn't mentioned as someone who wasn't notified.

I don't think they'll point the finger at each other - but I think it's likely Tonya will go along with his defense - if they choose to pursue it - that he was taken there against his will.

And it's an interesting point that the case shouldn't go forward without him being able to attend the hearings. I think that's probably the right of the accused, to attend hearings and defend themselves if they choose. I can't imagine it would be fully legal to hold a case hearing before a judge where the defendant wanted to be present but for the purposes of the calendar they went ahead with the proceeding without him.

I am guessing Mexican detention center wasn't up to his standards of living.
Back in US, he is only facing 120 days in jail at most.
