9 burn victims are now here at Parkland. Only patients with BAD burn injuries would be sent here.

I feel bad as I was getting aggravated at my lil one last night for not knowing about the Oklahoma City explosion. Pulled up wikipedia for him real quick. Can you imagine how loud it was??

I already thought about the animals in the area, as well. The chemicals in the air, now falling on their food and water supplies. :(

And the number of displaced/homeless pets that are going to come from this disaster either because their owners have left them behind or possibly due to their owners death.

If anyone sees links for local rescues that will be evacuating pets please post it, I would like to donate. I would assume the shelters in that area are already overflowing so hopefully some agencies will be looking at transporting animals north.

I keep looking at the footage and the google map of the town. I was just in Waco for my dads memorial service last month. Drove right by this plant.

I hope the 5-15 killed stays at those numbers. I would hate for that to become any higher. I cant stand that all the people of West and Waco have just lost a certain aspects of security in their communities. How do you get that back?

How do you start to feel safe anywhere when out of the blue your block explodes?

I am 1200 miles away now and this has devastated me ,I cannot imagine how horrifying this is for the town.

My heart is with the town, I know they are devistated..my heart goes out to the rescue personal, the plant workers, the families, my heart goes out to all of them and my payers for those who have passed and been harmed, and to the animals to..

eta, My husband works in IT department, for a very large plant here in Texas, and I tell ya, everyday that he leaves the house I say a prayer for his safety and for the safetyof his co workers. This has really hit me hard.. I think because my husband works in a large plant, well it scares me, worries me..

I cannot imagine the fear, panic, pain of all of those people dealing with this tragedy..my prayers for them..

Sonya,

That's such a good point and I will find some of the info - I was pleasantly surprised to hear on the radio during my commute that yes, several places were already receiving animals. (We've come a long way in animal care during disasters, etc. in the last decade, huh?)

New update being given now, Perry will do a press conference at 11:45 from DPS office in Austin. Nothing burning out of control. Does not know when or if people will be allowed in. Small amount of looting (are you kidding me?? my comment) Securing area with people who have reason to be there.

Watching a presser now on my local news.... not sure if it is streaming.

Small amount of looting going on! :banghead:

Really people???? Looting already? Ugh.

Yes, my friend that I stated had family that lost homes, well she hasn't been allowed to enter West to see the status of her home yet. :( Not being allowed into the area. She was in Waco last night when the explosion occurred.

Firefighters still missing. The one that was a firefighter/law enforcement officer has been found, in hospital with serious injuries. Still don't have numbers. Volunteer fire department.

Cows are actively participating in the presser again with Sgt Swanton, LOL

Search and rescue teams -- cannot confirm that have pulled anyone out. No word yet on cause of fire. Back to rescue, they did a quick cursory search, will go back and look in closets, under beds, etc.

Is the end of April cursed?

Oklahoma city bombing
columbine
VTech
Waco
(some other things I am sure missing)

Boston Marathon Bombing
Fertilizer Plant Explosion

wth is going on?
"The Waste Land," by T.S. Eliot, perhaps the most famous and also best poem of the 20th century, does start with this line:
April is the cruelest month

I watched a YouTube video a guy made of it. It was very loud on the video. I cannot imagine how loud it was in person. He pulled over and was video taping the fire. He makes a comment about how it will probably collapse when it exploded. He had a kid with him and you can hear how scared she was. :(

ETA link: WARNING- it's loud.

I would imagine that the looting issue might not be plain out steal the TV kind
More like scrap metal in the street kind. Stuff laying out in the street is most likely what is being looted.

Well it is Texas and folks are already pretty upset, hopefully the looters will be shot (which I believe may be legal in that state)

As I posted earlier I've stopped in West several times, at the ice house there - the Valero, I think - just off the interstate. Once I drove into town as I try to do with the little stopovers between here in Oklahoma's northeast corner and San Antonio. Just to see what else was there besides beef jerky, gas pumps, and cold beer. West was a nice little town, like anywhere else in America, with Americans on the streets, white, black, and brown, a little place but holding its own and going about its business, and proudly, I think. Common people are the salt of the earth. This just boggles me. Poor West. God save us. Prayers for all.
