TX - Fertilizer plant explodes in West, Texas

I think one of you awesome posters did post a similar article yesterday, but I'm now just really getting a chance to cruise news links...and saw they really are confident the death toll is 15. I "guess" that is good news, if you know what I mean.

WEST, Texas (KXAN) - The last wave of residents in West were allowed to comb through what was left of their homes on Wednesday.

Residents in ‘Zone 3,’ or those living closest to the plant, were faced with a sad reality. Many of them won't ever stay in their homes again.

Spring Street, which is just three blocks south of the plant, is now dubbed “Destruction Drive.”

“The insides of houses demolished,” said Christi Jones, who lived near plant. People trying to get help. It's awful.”

Good morning,

Had an opportunity to meet one of the coordinators of LODD (Line of Duty Deaths) at a manpower briefing last night. Pretty amazing, he came from the East Coast. They're the group that initiated the West Memorial at Baylor today.

Driving into work, pretty neat but somber to see several fire trucks parked outside a few hotels...from so many fire departments from places I've never heard of.

I thought my logistics work was almost over by yesterday afternoon (other than a few last minute details), but I just received several emails with the names of immediate family members that I need to do their criminal background checks on, before they meet with President Obama later today. Sad to see such a long list, real names.......................

------
I think KXTV will be running a live-stream of the ceremony today, probably KXXV and KCEN, also, for anyone interested. I'll try to get a link a little later. Procession for fire and first responders starts at 11am (I think, my brain is scrambled, need my Diet Coke infusion!) and Memorial Starts at 2pm.

Mr. DD is at his fire station today, he doesn't know their assignment for today yet. Waiting to hear from him and where he'll be. Sometimes we end up at the same sites, and sometimes not.

Pray for West today. Wear red if you haven't gotten dressed yet! :seeya:

DD you have enough on your plate. I saw they will have live streaming links. I'll make sure to post them when available. Don't worry about that. It's gonna be a tough day, prayers to all! :blowkiss:

For those in the DFW area, nbcdfw.com (channel 5) will be broadcasting live from the memorial starting at 1pm. On the morning news, they reported that President & Mrs. Bush will also attend the memorial in Waco.

President Obama has just ordered flags to be flown at half staff tomorrow to honor the victims of the #West explosion.

No one had to "order" us (Texans) to lower our flags to half staff....they've been at half staff all over the state since just hours, maybe even minutes after this tragedy occurred!

We are "Texas" and we take care of our own! My heart has been so very blessed to see the outpouring of support for West...all of Texas is loving on West!
