Hey Softail...question for ya...

Do you know why 2 of the men are draped in the Lone Star, and the rest in the Amercian?

Not to bring light to this situation...but when I was telling Dad about earlier today, I said I sure hope there aren't any fires in Texas today, or those people will be SOL!

I was kidding, cause of course, not all equipment is there...but I do hope that everyone keeps their head around Texas today! LOL!

The ceremony part of this...it's just so moving.

But there are just TOO MANY DAMN COFFINS! All those lives cut short...

The bagpipes have me going again!!

The ringing of the bells for the last alarm got me the most! :(

Me and the Hubs were talking about that, we think it is what the families wanted. :twocents:
They took their Texas pride very seriously? :dunno:

DD may know better when she gets back.

Hey!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your work putting links up...I've got my feet up and a bag'o'chips next to me (oops, did I admit that out loud?!?!?!) and I'm going to start catching up and watching some of this.

I was a few miles from Baylor, so I at least got to see the ambulances, engines, ladder trucks and Patriot Riders (!!!) as they were driving earlier to get ready for the procession near Baylor. That's all I could really see, but it was heart stopping enough as that was. So touching, no other way to say it.

Mr DD - Waco Fire had 2 of their 14 stations there, but he wasn't one of them. So, they were watching it on tv at their station until they had a 3-vehicle accident, so missed some of it. //// On my drive home, I had this need to go stop by Mr DD's station to just say hi and give him a hug, but they were getting ready to go fill air tanks.

A lot of red seen around town today :seeya:

Going to start watching and looking at some of the articles. Rumor has it, tissues may be needed.

OTHER FLAGS ON COFFINS

I "think" it's because they weren't certified volunteer firefighters (I think close, but maybe just finishing up their academy?)...and West Fire Dept made them Honorary West Fire Dept volunteers. OMG, make me cry.

I love Texas. I'm not native; I made a choice to move here. Have NEVER regretted it.

No Thanks necessary, Glad to do it! :) Since I couldn't be there! I hope your bag of chips isn't Lay's Cheesy Garlic Bread ones, they will be gone before you know it. :giggle: :innocent:

Good to see you! You may need a box of tissues! Just FYI!

I'm not a native either. But I got here as fast as I could! :) I've NEVER regretted it either! I also LOVE TEXAS!

I came from Illinois, and many many many moons ago I was a volunteer for a Fire Dept there. I think that adds to why this has just captivated me.

Oh, I just knew you would know about the Texas Flags! :)

:tyou: And :tyou: to Mr. DD!

I thought I read or saw something that the Westboro peeps were going to be protesting today's memorial.

Thankfully, I didn't see them. :)

Mr DD is from Illinois!

How neat you used to volunteer at a FD - then you know what's in the heart and soul of these guys. I came from CA and wasn't familiar with the volunteer fire departments. That's what my home is covered by here. They're so common in this area.

I'm sitting with my sour cream and onion chips (LOL)...watching highlight coverage on TV, and then on the computer.

I don't know what bits and pieces have been on everyone else's feeds, but did you guys see a fire fighter in a wheelchair on TV, in the crowd? Turns out he is a West FF, and was injured in the explosion. He's still "IN" the hospital and got a "pass" to be released for today's memorial, and then is going back to the hospital.

Oh, this is hard to watch these memorial clips from family members. I've got tears streaming on a few of them. I had to run criminal checks on the family members meeting with Pres Obama afterwards, and it was difficult, as I had their DOB's with their names, and it was pretty evident who were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, etc. There was only one that I wasn't able to determine whether he (would have been a brother) could be allowed in, but the higher ups reviewed and determined to allow him in. That would have been horrible on a day like today. Whew. So now I'm seeing faces of some of the people I ran names on. ///But, I'm sure that time with Pres and Mrs Obama will be something those family members will never forget. Too bad it was due to this situation.

haha - just saw the family story about Superman - and then video of his supporters sitting in the crowd with Superman shirts on. Absolutely love it.

Okay, watching more...and crying.

faw720 -

I thought of you today, running a name of a family member that started with Faw... it was rather long name, one I've never seen before. Maybe it was Czech.
