I don't know. It is really hard to get an adult relative committed if they won't agree to go, esp with the way ins companies put so many restrictions on what they will pay for and how long. I think Rusty had a problem bigger...much bigger...than he could handle and just plain didn't know what to do about it. If he had been independently wealthy, he could have contained her in the west wing of the house and hired nurses to keep track of her and a full time nanny for the kids. Working class folks don't have access to such solutions. Maybe he could have done more than he did, but I am sure his hands were tied in may ways.Jean said:......
Holmes said the hardest thing to understand is why Yates did not intervene at that point. "Put himself between the children and her. He could've always had Andrea committed. I will say that until the day I die."

I wish he had waited until this trial was over to get married again. I am not sure doing it right now was appropriate. If he waited this long, what would a few more weeks be?Mama-cita said:He wore sunglasses to his wedding. Pretty damned appropriate. He must have been wearing them all throughout his marriage to Andrea to have not seen how sick she was!
I am NOT defending Randy in any way, but maybe the date was set before she was granted a new trial or before the new trial date was announced. I know he probably could have postponed it until after the trial. I was just thinking of any reason why he would do it 2 days before Andrea's trial. I suppose he will not attend this trial. Did he attend the last one:waitasec: I don't remember.Goody said:I wish he had waited until this trial was over to get married again. I am not sure doing it right now was appropriate. Annie said:They just said on the news that the trial has been delayed. I think they said June 26. Two witnesses who had testified in the first trial were not available.
LovelyPigeon said:I think Andrea Yates is the epitome of legal insanity. If there are to be any laws allowing for the recognition of insanity as a defense, they should apply in her case.
I agree with those who believe a mental hospital is the correct place for Andrea Yates to be incarcerated.
