I doubt Rusty "Moving On with My New Family" Yates will be making that trip often.

Yes I heard it was about 8 hrs. Hearing her mother, I don't think she'll be able to get there much either.

Yes. Although I think that Andrea's siblings would probably take her mother to see her, as I think they did before. And that 8 hours is more like 9 or 10 if you go through Houston and then Dallas.

Her mother's condition is the reason I don't think Andrea will ever be released. Andrea was the family member who was helping the most with her father who had Alzheimer's. It didn't seem that there others who could help out with full-time care of a parent then, so I don't see any of her siblings be able to take on responsibility for Andrea now.

How many siblings does she have, do you know? And I wonder how much freedom Andrea will have to make phone calls.

eta Do you know offhand the name of this institution she's going to?
I know the closest one is Rusk (?).

Apparently just one--brother Brian Kennedy. I thought she had a sister, but her mother is alternately referred to as Jutta Kennedy and as Karin Kennedy, since her full name is Jutta Karin Kennedy. Took me a few references to figure that out. My mistake! Andrea is younger, I know. So brother is at least mid-forties.

The hospital is Vernon State Hospital. It's a maximum security facility.

Phones aren't restricted in the prisons that much (they run a constant phone-scam and I've even had the attempt at home--"Collect call from Texas State Prison" or something like that--really freaky.) But I think the mental health places may be different, it may be a privilege earned thing. The patients have a structured day there but there may be a time when they can use the phones if they have the means.

Thanks for the info Texana - I was doing some googling as well. I didn't realize that Andrea is now 41. If some people are worried about her being released and having more children, I think the odds are against that.

You're welcome, Jilly.

It seems to me that Andrea's family has talked much less publicly this second time around. And they did not talk as much the first time as Rusty did.

After the verdict the reporters were waiting around to try and get a quote from Andrea's mother but she just thanked them for helping her get out in the rain and did not say anything publicly.

The press always refers to her as Jutta Kennedy but I think she goes by Karin herself. So I thought for awhile Karin was either Brian's wife or their sister, I didn't connect her to being Jutta.

So what do you think BeeBee - do you think this verdict makes it easier on Rusty? I mean, the whole nation including the pros & def blames him in one way or another (I do too, by the way).

I'm just wondering since there has now been a declaration saying that Andrea is Not Guilty/Insane if in his dorky mind, it completely exonerates him from any blame.

If anything, Andrea's verdict should make Rusty realize that he bears direct responsibility for what happened. As the "sane" parent, it was up to him to protect his children from their psychotic mother, whose mind was marred by schitzophrenia. Instead, he heaped more responsibilities onto his wife, having her homeschool the children, which resulted in her being with them 24/7. A mentally stable, energetic woman would find that difficult and mentally taxing. Imagine what that did to Andrea in her state of mind.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this case, from Rusty to Dr Saeed. Those five beautiful children would be alive today if the "sane" people would have made the right decisions and choices.

IMO

So Andrea got away with murder, after all--pretty revolting---I can't help but remember when her oldest child was found with clumps of Andrea's hair in his little hand in a desperate attempt to keep his own mother from murdering him--5 children murdered by this black-hearted 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬--5 children brutally murdered, helpless and defenseless

Yep, men go through what is called "mid life crisis" and buy new cars and change their hair styles and buy new "younger" looking clothes and usually leave their old wives. Women who have post partem depression with schitzoprenic and psychotic tendencies and husbands who are "sane" but "stupid" and walk on without giving their wife a second glance are black hearted 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

Yeah, right.

Peter, if you consider spending the next 30 or 40 years in a state run maximum security mental hospital "getting away with it," then that's your perogative. I think if you took a quick poll, however, and asked, most people would probably prefer just plain prision over it. She not only didn't get away with it, she'll be locked up for the rest of her life with the worse lunatics that Texas prisons have to offer.

did anyone watch Nancy Grace last night??...there was a psychiatrist that testified at the recent trial, on the show last night..he says Andrea was not insane...to make a long story short, Beth Carras/Karras (sp?) was on also, but only for a minute...Nancy cut her off BIG TIME, while talking.....

Nancy was rambling on & on about what a 'cushy' life Andrea will have in a mental hospital, yada yada yada...Beth spoke up & said something along the lines of "well Nancy, a jury found her not guilty by reason of insanity, so that's where folks like her have to go"...Beth went on to say, that even though you (meaning Nancy) think she should be in prison, she was found not guilty...Beth was going to say something else, & Nancy just cut her off & went back to talking to the shrink...

i like Nancy, for the most part, but i get SOOOOO tired of her cutting folks off, when they don't say what she thinks they should say

i've always liked Beth because she's fair & reports with accuracy...Nancy needs to take a few lessons from Beth, imo....

you're right...it was discussed last night on Nancy's show...can't remember who said it, but it was said that life in this mental hospital will NOT be all fun & games...Andrea will be there till she's a very old lady....

I did CE. Welner was on Prime Time last Thursday with this also. I used to like Welner before I heard that on this case he initially went to the defense to offer his services. When he was told that there would be no money in it - pro bono - he went to the prosecution.

I like Nancy Grace, but I saw her talk about the case in the Northeast where one guy was put in the tank for being DUI--after a few hours his friend came to pick him up--cops gave the friend the keys. Friend takes the drunk and gives him the keys, and drunk kills someone driving home (hours later.) So friend was charged with manslaughter.

I just couldn't agree with Nancy Grace on that one. The police hadn't warned the friend NOT to give the keys, they released the DUI guy hours later, if the guy was too drunk to drive home, he should have stayed in custody.

The DUI guy was killed in the wreck, so it seemed like they were going after the only one left alive. Nancy was so "he's totally responsible" that I could not relate. It seemed to me like there was a lot of gray in that the guy might not have been able to tell that the DUI friend was still too drunk to drive. It was hours later. I am not sure he deserved a long prison sentence, that's all.

And she does interrupt a lot.

She seems to be a lot more "knee jerk" in her reactions and her cut-off comments now.

I don't know if this interview was ever made known to the public before but they said on Nancy Grace that Andrea was a rigid obsessive compulsive who expected perfection and based her home schooling on discipline. The kids had been acting up and she had been neglecting them and thought that CPS might come and take the kids away, especially after a comment by her mother. This showed Andrea that she was a complete failure. It was also said that there might be day trips to Walmart, bingo, and beauty shop services for Andrea at the mental hospital.

I would find out what beauty shop the hospital takes their "guests" to and be there with big pictures of the kids on huge placards so she could see them when she walks in to get all beautified!

Yates transferred to Kerrville State Hospital

From staff reports
The Daily Times Published January 27, 2007

Andrea Yates, the Houston woman who drowned her children in a bathtub, was moved on Wednesday to the Kerrville State Hospital.

Yates’ attorney George Parnham confirmed her move in a phone interview Friday morning with KRIV-TV, the Fox affiliate in Houston. The interview was posted on the station’s Web site.

Parnham said the move was based on the recommendation of her treatment team, which had evaluated her mental condition from 2001 through the present day.

“That information was presented to a board in Vernon,” Parnham said in the phone interview. “It was determined that Andrea was no longer a danger to anyone and was suitable for transfer to the Kerrville (State) Hospital.”

In 2001, Yates reportedly heard voices telling her to drown her children so they would be saved from going to hell. They were Noah, 7; John, 5; Luke, 3; Paul, 2; and Mary, 6 months.

The Kerrville State Hospital is a 202-bed facility that primarily serves forensic patients who have been found incompetent to stand trial.

State hospital administrators could not be reached late Friday.
