I don't like the entire racial focus on this trial. Really?

The entire article from above, is all about race. Guyger is "White", the judge, Kemp, is "black", the victim, Jean, is "black". The venue in Dallas will have too many "minorities".

The situation has absolutely nothing to do with race here. A woman, with a gun, walked into a man's house, and killed him. She did not seem to be in immediate physical danger. It seems that to a reasonable person, like me, that she could have easily left the apartment, and called for assistance. Not gone for her gun and killed a man. This isn't even "Stand your ground" to me. I still want to see the toxicology results of Guyger. And the timeline of her entire day.

You know what I thought while the message board was down

What if he had shot her?
He heard someone coming into his apartment and felt threatened.
If he had a plan & owned a gun...he might of killed her.
She was in uniform but it was dark, her gun drawn coming right at him.
I don’t know if I believe she gave him verbal commands. I don’t even know if a person, any person, would not be very thrown off guard at night in his own safe space.
You are right Mickey.
She walked into his house & made the choice to treat him like a suspect. If she saw what she thought to be -her door- ajar or - her door- was not locked. IMO her brain filled in the blanks ,she proceeded in , which was a bad choice. She should of called for assistance. And the minute she saw him,his shadow whatever...She was invading his space and demanding (either verbally) down the end of a gun ,demanding control.
If he had shot her.
The mistake would still be on her IMO

All MOO

I really don't think that AG will get a "fair" trial anywhere. My personal bias, is that the entire investigation is suspect. Starting from the minute she called in the shooting, and it was considered "an officer involved shooting", same as if she had been on duty.

The "cover up" started from that very Instant. Her home was not searched, even though the victim's home was searched. I am so cynical about the "botched" investigation from that moment on, Guyger was not charged or questioned until she had time to get her story straight. The whole situation seems biased and compromised.

Whatever evidence is presented could have been tampered with, for bias. I am that cynical. It matters little to me that the "Texas Rangers" did the investigation. I believe that the prosecution will probably just present some sort of "dog and pony" show, with a forgone conclusion that AG was so exhausted from working all of the time, that she mistakenly killed her neighbor in his house. And there won't be any evidence presented that doesn't "prove" that theory.

I am already disgusted.

Yup that's why so many posters believe she should have backed out and asked for assistance.

By going in and shoot, she was going to take a chance, or a risk, that it might be possible:
1. He had made a mistake and was in her apartment by mistake
2. She had made a mistake and was in someone's apartment instead.

As a cop she should have been better equipped to assess such risks. So when the risks she took turned against her, her action should be viewed as more inexcusable than an ordinary householder "holding their fort".

MOO. And that is assuming her story is actually to be believed, which I am not so sure.

Let's give the good Citizens of Dallas a chance. They don't suffer fools lightly, and any attempt at anything less than a vigorous pursuit for justice will not fare well in Texas, the nation, or the world. Lots of eyes on this one. I doubt she'll get convicted for murder, but manslaughter. Then, of course, there are the civil trials to follow, where the family must receive recompense for their grievous loss. "Officer" Guyger, has come to the end of her gunslinging days, and now the city will end up paying for her recklessness.

IMO I don't have a foregone conclusion. There is so much that has not been revealed. The only thing I really know is that she killed him, in his home. Really hope the trial can reveal more. See how that will go.

Dallas Police Preparing As If Amber Guyger Will Be Acquitted For Killing Botham Jean
Officers were reportedly given their orders in two separate memos last week.

Sep 03, 2019

"While local media was busy worrying about whether Amber Guyger can get a fair trial for killing Botham Shem Jean last year, officers with the Dallas Police Department have reportedly gotten orders that make it seem as if leadership was expecting the former cop to be acquitted. Jury selection for the long-awaited trial was scheduled to start Friday, exactly one year after Guyger illegally entered Jean’s own home and shot him on sight the night of Sept. 6, 2018.

Orders came down from the department’s top brass last week that no officers will be given any additional time off until the trial ends, according to WFAA, the local ABC affiliate in Dallas. But it was another order given to the ranks that could be interpreted as the expectations of an acquittal.

“Detectives were also told to have their uniforms, gas masks, helmets and other gear ready,” WFAA wrote, citing “separate memos” from the higher-ups.

The messages taken together — no more time off and get your equipment “ready” — could be a signal that Dallas police leadership were not only preparing for Guyger to be found not guilty, but also for a potential riot in the aftermath of an acquittal...."

That is interesting. Many people are wondering why the new DA is so set on the charge of murder. If the jury is only presented with that option, and manslaughter charges are not considered, it will be a very high bar for the prosecution to lay out the facts that lead to a murder conviction.

But, we have not seen the evidence yet. Maybe the prosecution is privvy to information that makes a murder charge a slam dunk.

The judge is considering sequestration for the jury. Not sure what I think about that.

It might not be a bad idea to sequester the jury because the courthouse and airwaves will probably be a zoo. You wouldn't want the jury to be exposed to all the chatter. The trial is expected to last 2-3 weeks. It would suck to be a sequestered juror, for sure, but 2-3 weeks isn't too terribly long of a trial.

I think a murder charge is really swinging for the fence and would be pretty foolish, IMO, unless the jury also has the option of a lesser charge. I recall a lawyer on here commenting weeks back that they thought the jury will have the option of a lesser charge. If so, then swing away I guess.

Jury Selection In Amber Guyger Trial Begins Friday

September 4, 2019

"....Dallas Morning News has reported that in selecting the jury in the case, Attorneys are likely to weed out individuals who seem extremely pro-police or sympathetic to the cause of groups such as Black Lives Matter.

Black Lives Matter campaigns against violence targetting black people, especially police killings of Afro-Americans.

According to Dallas Morning News, jurors will have to decide whether Guyger committed a crime based on the evidence that will be presented in the case.

They will also have to consider whether she is guilty of murder, manslaughter or something else, it was reported.

Guyger’s trial will start on September 23, 2019.

Dallas cops were informed that they will not be given time off from the start of the trial through at least October 7, local media said last week."

Hope this is not getting too political - but wouldn't there be another group rioting, if AG is convicted?

Just thinking maybe the cops themselves can't be sure one way or another...
