They asked for a clearer definition of manslaughter and the Castle Doctrine. Of course the judge told them to rely on the instructions.

Ok. Thank you. The mention of the Castle Doctrine makes me feel a hung jury is more likely.

There are some who believe the right to shoot a certain type of person you think is in your home is more important than anything else. Including an innocent person's right to live.

This is the law, apparently, in TX. Killing someone by mistake needs to be protected from criminal consequences or their rights to protect themselves erode. That's my thinking about the attitude and why the law is written as it is.

Oh boy!! Praying hard!!

Agreed. Again, the fact that I’m not part of the jury really messes with me. I hate having no control over situations. Lol

Me too we have control issues and that's ok!

How long do they usually give for both sides and family to arrive to the courthouse?

Where are you seeing this? Court tv, everyone is in the courtroom including lots of security, but nothing to indicate a verdict. ???

I do not think it was reasonable for her to shoot him.

No. It wasn't. But I don't think it was reasonable for her to get confused about her apartment either.

I'm thinking they settled on manslaughter based on question??

are they all gathered for a question? or what?

  • #1,256
Apparently in TX, yes. The way their law is written. Seems the judge's hands were somewhat tied. But it gives her an out IMO. I didn't realize that at first.

Thank you, gitana1. That’s what I’m thinking, too. MOO

Would the jury give up that quick for a hung jury?

Verdict? Wow so soon after saying they did not understand terms. Do they just want to go home?
