I initially thought 10-15 years would be appropriate, but after the texts and SM posts I was like NO, no less than 25 years will do. So, this is much less than I expected. The statements from his family and friends were soooo touching.

The jury certainly was generous toward Amber. I really hope she thinks about what she did every day of her life--needlessly taking such a precious life.

WOW! All the sudden a lot of loud shouting. A lot of people aren't satisfied with the sentence. I think Judge Kemp had a lot of difficult decisions to make and did a commendable job, though. JMO

I fear there will be riots :(

Couldn't say that I blame anyone for feeling that outraged. It's a massive miscarriage of justice. People are left to feel that once again, our justice system doesn't care about them.

I think it’s his sister who is still sitting like she doesn’t want to leave. She is so upset. Bless them all. So awful 🤬🤬🤬

So she can get out in 5? Five years for a conviction of murder is beyond ridiculous.
Even if she is a model prisoner, I do not believe she will get parole in 5 years. That would be an insult to Bo and an insult to justice.

yikes...check out court TV...people are so angry...this is unbelievable. what happened in that jury room. had this been reversed he would have gotten at least 28

The fact that they agreed to the 10 years so quickly tells me that the murder conviction was an appeasement. It was too good to be true.

Twitterverse not really happy either

Absolutely 100% the correct sentence.
Bravo to the jurors for getting this right.
Hopefully their sentence will be respected and the city doesn't burn tonight.

Oh my, not happy in the courthouse hallway

At least she didn’t walk.
That would of been very bad IMO
I don’t understand the 10 yrs at all.

She won't get an ounce of criticism from me. She was amazing and honorable. I think she is a wonderful judge.

I’m ashamed to read 10 years.

I’m very sorry they did not honor the request of the family of Botham Shem

Well listen at the end of the day this was a diverse jury. This was a jury from Dallas county where Botham lived. And they chose 10 years! If they can live with it then I guess that's going to have to do. So I'm going to accept that and move on. Defense was right to want the jury to choose the sentence. Good call!

As pleasantly surprised I was that the jury was able to convict her of murder, I’m just as disappointed that she only got 10 years.

I was hoping for more like 20, as that would serve as a buffer for any time subtracted from her sentence.

She’s in the prime of her life, and she should lose all of it.

Her victim didn’t get to enjoy his.

10 years isn't that bad. I really thought that they would go hard core when they came back with murder conviction.

She can do that pretty easily. She will probably get special treatment. Goes fast.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed> If I had been on a jury I would have convicted of murder due to her statement of intent to kill but I still feel this was more of a manslaughter case. 10 years is all I would have wanted. Convicted child molesters get less time! <modsnip: Racial discussion is NOT allowed at Websleuths.>

Who are these people yelling on WFAA? Are they related to Botham Jean?

Some of those women had sons who were involved in police shootings according to WFAA.
