I wonder, if Botham had been anything other than a black man, if she would have rendered aid instead of ignoring him while he bled to death.

On the recording her calling him "bud" and sounding so uninvolved really left an impression on me. She is a product of her training...all of the testimony by her family that she was laser focused on being an officer...they were very lucky to find the witness drug addict that "loves" her because I doubt many were lining up to testify on her behalf. She comes across as cold and it may be from family upbringing...not sure...does not matter now. Her actions after that make the forgiveness so hard to understand. Again were it not for public outrage and the stellar history of the victim this would have never seen the light of day.

This forum went from cries for justice to Kumbaya and nothing but praise for how wonderful everyone is and AG deserves nothing but forgiveness and the ten years is just fine, it’s no big deal that she’s racist and violent.

Did the justice seekers just leave or has everyone really turned that quick? I can’t handle this.

I think most of the forum probably are catching up on the many hours missed of real-life things to do that we spent on keeping up with the trial over the past week.

If the brother is okay with forgiveness, no judgment from me.
If Botham's mom is not to that point yet or ever, no judgment from me there either.

For me 20 would be the minimum I personally would have been happy with, honestly 30 is what I was hoping for.
That's because I'm 99.999% positive that a 10-year sentence will only equal 5 for this cop. So I in no way consider this a 10-year sentence and I don't refer to it as that and never will. She got 5 years. 2024 she will be out and I pray not back to her old ways.

I only take comfort (and a large amount of comfort at that) in that I'm a Christian as well, that Botham is in a much better place, and that the ultimate judgment comes in the afterlife.

If Amber gets out and completely turns her life around, maybe speaks to other cops about prejudices and racism then just maybe Botham's life won't be in vain. Maybe speaks on behalf of Bothams' foundation and donates all proceeds? I somehow don't think 5 years will be enough for her, but hey I was very wrong yesterday so may be wrong again.

5 years for murder that was avoidable by simply calling for back-up then failing to give CPR and texting instead? Only in America and only for a certain subset of the population for sure. Her life was certainly spared yesterday and I hope when she's out at age 36 that she does something much different than she was doing before she this happened.

No, you are not the only one. I refuse to bring race into my opinion about this case. There is absolutely no evidence at all this was racially motivated. None !!

There were a few brief seconds I thought he would stab her during the hug probably wishful thinking on my part because I'm not so kind , you hurt me or mine especially my babygirl (13 year old) and you wont see that out of me , I'm just not wired that way .

not trying to stir up any hate...the jury spoke and I think most here respect their conclusion and sentence. It is human nature to conduct a post-mortem of sorts...the court channels are doing so and we have all watched this here and feel like commenting. No desire to stir up anything...just like to hear what other people think. Yesterday I felt like I was really alone in thinking things that happened were odd...now I see I am not alone in that thought and most agree sentence too short. Can we change anything no...and soon this thread will go silent. Not moving on to another case here...don't watch too many anymore as it is too time consuming...no vitriol here at all.

i assume there was a metal detector as you enter courthouse....frankly given the emotion here I guess there was an element of risk involved in the judge permitting this.

She may not even have been charged. I don't think that it would have garnered the kind of attention that it did.

Oh I do after Justine Diamond , didn't he 12 years ( not enough) and city paid 20 million dollar settlement but that was different she was outside ...he was on his own couch

I actually think that she was tired, distracted and mad because her married lover/partner wouldn't come up to her apartment to satisfy her "needs."

She entered the wrong apartment (through a defective door), saw a man sitting on a couch, eating ice cream. She shouted at him and immediately drew her weapon and aimed to kill, without really looking around to see if it was her apartment or thinking of alternatives (like exiting).

I think that she would have done this to any target. This target just happened to be black.

I also think that this apartment complex needs to be held liable. Didn't they say that it was found that the electronic plates in floor were put in wrong causing the door to latch sometimes and sometimes not latch? That along with those apartments looking so much alike are an accident waiting to happen.

I understand the politics behind wanting to make this strictly a racially motivated crime, but I just don't believe this to be the case. That's just my opinion.

I don't think that AG will be a danger to our society once she serves her prison sentence, especially, if she is never allowed to own a weapon or be in a position of authority again.

It's just sad that this young man had to lose his life. I personally hold AG AND the apartment complex responsible.

I realize I’m backsliding a bit but I was out yesterday and didn’t actually see the proceedings. Just saw a portion of the brother’s testimony and then the hug. I will say hug underestimates... it was an embrace. I’ve never in all of my life seen anything like it. IMO, we would all do good to follow a bit of that example. MOO

'They're going to throw everything they have at the appellate court, hoping something sticks, hoping something gives them another chance at retrying this case.'

Not in my opinion. She is a very immature, self-focused young lady, worried about herself. She should never have been on the police force.

She was in a panic, worried about what she did in the spur of the moment, without thinking, worried about her job, worried about her life, worried about me, me, me...It's sad, but that is what I think. Nothing about race.

I agree with your post, but wanted to say that IMO those texts were racist. You don’t have to intend for something to be racist for it to be racist.

I cannot believe they would appeal this but I am no expert. The murder conviction sort of gets lost in the light sentence....a convicted murderer is going to have a real hard time in life with everything.
