Texas law stipulates murder convicts aren’t eligible for parole until serving at least half their sentence, meaning Guyger will be locked up for a minimum of five years.

Ed Cox, whose Cox Law Firm outside Dallas regularly handles parole cases, said the board gives a fair amount of weight to letters from relatives of both the victim and the offender when pondering an early release.

“If his brother decides to support her release on parole, I think the board would absolutely consider that,’’ Cox said. “And I would expect that lawyers for her if she’s represented before the board would reach out to his family and seek to gain their support.’’

Besides the family statements, Cox said the amount of time she actually spends behind bars will hinge on Guyger’s behavior in prison and whether she takes advantage of opportunities for self-improvement while she’s there.

“There is an expectation that she conducts herself well, abides by the rules and seeks to better herself so she can successfully reintegrate into society,’’ Cox said, adding that being a former cop with a previously clean record should also work in Guyger’s favor, especially considering board members often have a background in law enforcement.

Last year in Texas, the parole approval rate for her type of crime – which falls under the “violent aggravated, non-sexual category’’ – was 33.6%. A total of 11,692 cases were considered and 3,900 early releases granted. Those denied usually get to apply again after a year.
How many years will Amber Guyger stay in prison? That could depend on Botham Jean's family

AG will probably live like a relative queen in prison. Maybe she will be placed in her own cell, and have a light work duty, like working in the infirmary. They won't treat her like the criminal that she really is.

Actually she has been assigned to the Mountain View unit in Gatesville, which is a maximum security prison where most of the female death row inmates are housed.

I can understand the protesters feelings about the sentence because when you take into count parole and appeals I doubt Amber Guyger will ever spend the full ten years in prison, on the other hand the protesters should take the families feelings into consideration. They are seem to be a forgiving family and are trying to deal with this loss all the while people are talking of closing down the state fair and the Oklahoma-Texas game. Hearing this can't be easy on Botham Jean's family.

Not sure if this is a repeat or not.

Amber Guyger has begun her sentence in prison. Clayton Neville says that the chance for an appeal is still on the table. Also, few details are emerging from the death of key witness Joshua Brown.

I mean as far as the verdict went. Was it better for her that he couldn’t speak on his own behalf? Would or could have the sentence been more?

She’s also a police officer who had a bag with her and I believe trained to help people in situations such as this until the paramedics arrive.

2nd Arrest Made in Deadly Shooting of Guyger Trial Witness

Jacquerious Mitchell was in custody and hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday after he was shot in the chest by Brown during the drug deal, Moore said.

Authorities arrested Michael Mitchell at a motel in Marksville, Louisiana Tuesday, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said he was taken into custody without incident and faces charges of possession with intent to distribute, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegally carrying a weapon.

Green remains on the run and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Todd Sanders, artist and owner of Roadhouse Relics, spent his day Wednesday cleaning up a vandalized mural on his shop on the corner of South First and West Annie Street ... for a third time.

Overnight, it appeared someone spraypainted the words "Justice 4 Botham" over the iconic "Greetings from Austin" mural.

"I didn't have anything to do with that and Austin didn't have anything to do with that, so I don't understand why they're coming here to spread their message," said Sanders. "If they feel really strongly about that, go paint a mural about it somewhere, go make some art instead of destroy other people's art."

"The very next morning I pull up, I know what I'm doing that day," said Sanders. "I'm fixing this mural before I make art again in my studio, Roadhouse Relics."

"We love the murals, we're going to fix 'em every time," said Sanders. "So all you're doing is costing good people a lot of work to fix it. Your message isn't going to stay here ... leave the art alone."

Are they still in town?

I doubt that. Why would they travel to Austin?

I believe the justice system worked in this case -- AG was tried and convicted for carelessly taking the life of BR.

But I do not understand the militant protesters. Seriously --AG was sentenced by the jury, not the "inappropriate" judge, or the "corrupt" DPD.

The murder conviction carried terms including a range of years per Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and that 10 year sentence was a unanimous decision by sequestered, committed jurors -- all residents of Dallas.

So what is it -- the jurors be damned too?

If they can't accept and/or live with the laws of their State, then I suggest they relocate.

MOO

Did y’all see this?! Ft. Worth PD shot and killed a black woman in her own home at 2am.
Texas police officer shoots woman to death inside her home

Ft. Worth and Dallas are merged so it’s almost the same PD...I can’t really find any more words.

ETA: thread link TX - Atatiana Jefferson, fatally shot by police through her window, bodycam, Fort Worth, 12 Oct 2019
FFS. Police officers need to stand down. This is ridiculous. Call in SWAT if you can't handle it. This woman would have at least had a chance then.
