There's a wonderful documentary called "Country School: One Room, One Nation" which came out about 10 years ago, and it's about one-room schoolhouses. Most of the interviewees had wonderful things to say, but not all of them, and it's not suitable for young children.I agree. And while there was no social media in the past, elderly teachers have tales to tell (as did the teachers of the previous generation). I see no good data that this is on the increase, but I do see a correlation between class size and overall incidents of this type (including punching, kicking, bringing weapons to class, etc - it's all stuff children have to be taught not to do).
Children imitate what they see. School is about building on what their parents have already taught them about proper social behavior.
IMO.
Why is that?
One man described "an older boy who was a bully" who sexually assaulted smaller children, presumably including him, at knifepoint, and added, "We didn't have the courage to tell our parents, or the vocabulary to do so."
You can see it on DVD, and my local PBS affiliate showed it uncensored.
