My son lives in Midland and I can’t get hold of him. Surely I would have heard something by now, right? Is there a number to call?

I hope and pray your son is ok please update us. @cody22 is giving the right advice call the Midland police department.

Thank you so much Cody, Margarita and Greg. Just called them and the officer checked their list, his name is not on it.

Talk about my heart pounding out of my chest.

My sincere sympathy for those whose loved ones are on the list.

The officer sounded so young and was so very kind, I could hear the relief in his voice when he heard the relief in my voice.

The shock and sadness and horror never goes away no matter how many times these happen, does it? Every one of these is a human. And the 17-month-old. :(

Exactly.

View attachment 201386At least 1 person dead, 20 injured by shooter in Odessa and Midland, Texas, authorities say

From the above link:

“A senior law enforcement official briefed on the case and a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the shooter had a rifle that may have been a .223 AR-15 style weapon.”

Common weapon for these types of incidents, moo.

Suspect was first pulled over by trooper in traffic stop. Trooper was shot then suspect went on killing spree.

Per Fox News

Imo

I’m curious what initial call was for on the traffic stop (anxiously catching up here, thanks everyone for the updates).

Can someone give me insight on the bullet holes in the vehicles.

The blue truck with holes in the passenger window particularly.

Idk the circumstances such as range and speed but that is a really tight cluster for 2 moving vehicles on a highway. I guess he could have been driving right next to them at same speed.

I am not familiar with guns but it looks like this guy had some kind of training with weapons from the bullet holes and accuracy while driving.

I marked that same photo above because I wanted to analyze it later and also post it in NOCO for reference, not because there’s a possible connection. We’ve studied a lot of vehicle windows in NOCO, right @Hatfield ? There’s a lot to be said about that window but I’ll wait til I’m caught up, moo.

Seems like LE deliberately hit the vehicle the suspect was in? If that is the case, wow.

jmo

Probably a pit maneuver, moo.

Thank you. Young adults, call your mom back when she calls you asking if you are safe from a gunman on a rampage!

I’m actually surprised he hasn’t called me, his nickname for me is safety mom. He knows how I worry. He once joked that I got him safety cones and flame retardant clothes for his birthday.

I had the same experience with the massacre in Las Vegas. It was quite frightening. Glad he is okay.

This is so scary, that it happens so randomly and frequently now.

I cried when I read that. :(
I hope and pray the poor baby recovers.

It reminded me of that dear little baby, with yellow socks, from Oklahoma. I will never forget that picture.

I never used to think about it that much. Now it happens so often there are probably many who post here who have been in our position.

Does anyone else look sideways at anyone in a store with a backpack, and also check for the nearest exits wherever you happen to be?

(I’ll never forget during the Vegas incident, as it was all going down, confusion, etc, @kai was in a nearby hotel...)

Evidently TX has a problem with the mentally ill killing people.

It’s not just Texas obviously. Google the locations.

I just meant that's been the reason used lately for why these mass shootings are happening. Since so many seem to be happening in TX, perhaps they have lots of mentally ill people there.

No. It’s not just Texas. Not even close.

I didn’t think about this until just a few minutes ago, but when I gave the officer my son’s name, he immediately said it didn’t sound familiar but let me double check. I bet every officer there has almost memorized the names of all 26 victims.

Bless the police force.

“Before the vehicle came to a complete stop, the suspect – a white male believed to be in his mid-30s – pointed a rifle toward the rear window of his car and fired several shots toward the DPS patrol unit. The unit was occupied by two troopers, and one was shot. The suspect fled the scene and continued to shoot motorists and others, including a Midland police officer and an Odessa police officer.”

Snoods, when I saw your first post about not being able to reach your son it took my breath away. You helped us realize that this can happen to any of us at any time. It should feel personal that even one child can lose his life so senselessly. May you rest well tonight. God bless all the victims and their families.

Yes. Recently (right after the Walmart shooting) I was in the Rose Reading Room at the NY Public Library and it freaked me out. I kept thinking about how it was a large open space without a lot of exits or places to hide, and people were just walking in and out with backpacks and the security isn't searching that thoroughly, and if you're absorbed on your computer with headphones on, you might not even react that quickly. It's such a beautiful room too, but I was happy to leave.

I also now carry Quikclot gunshot wound dressing in my purse...I got the idea from Taylor Swift who said in an interview that she always carries it with her.

Thank you so much, you are very kind. I was so rattled I had begun calling random hospitals with shaking hands. Should I call Odessa or Midland hospitals first? I was searching the pictures of shot up trucks for his truck.

Thank goodness for Websleuths, it hadn’t crossed my mind to call the police station, der. If I wasn’t under duress it would have been the first thing I would have done.

I still won’t completely be at ease until he calls me, although I am sure he is fine.
