Nancy Grace Thursday Jan 13 - everything Grandma said

GRACE: I understand that it wasn`t that long ago you tried to get custody, relatives tried to get custody away from Mommy? You wanted Hailey out of that home, is that correct?

CONNIE JONES, HAILEY`S PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER: Yes, ma`am. That was last January.

GRACE: What happened?

JONES: Well, I had went on vacation, and when I come back, Clint had said that he had Hailey and then Billie (INAUDIBLE) that he ended up getting her back and everything. And I didn`t even know any of this was going on until I came back.

GRACE: You didn`t know what was going on?

JONES: No, ma`am. All I know is that Clint tried to take her because Hailey wanted to stay with Clint. And (INAUDIBLE) wanted her back (INAUDIBLE)

GRACE: Ms. Jones -- Ms. Jones, your theory that the live-in boyfriend sexually attacked the little girl and that he killed her when she threatened to tell -- what do you base that on?

JONES: Because Hailey had told me (INAUDIBLE) him been living there in the past that he would walk around at nighttime, and the hall light would be on, and she could see his shadow at her door, at the foot of the door. She could see his legs at the foot of the door, just at her door, just standing there. And it scared her. And I don`t know, things just don`t add up that Monday. Why would he leave his job? He didn`t quit, he just left his job.

GRACE: You know what`s odd about that, Connie Jones -- with us taking your calls live is Hailey`s mother, Billie Dunn, and her grandmother, Connie Jones. Ms. Jones, I asked that question several times last night, and this is what I got, that he showed up around 6:00 AM to work. He went to the soft drink machine, he got a Coke or whatever he got, he took a few sips out of it, he looked at his boss and walked out. There wasn`t an argument. He didn`t get fired. He didn`t say, I quit. He just walked out. He wasn`t there over 15 minutes. Now, why do you drive all the way to work, which is well over 20 miles to where he works...

JONES: Yes.

GRACE: ... drink a soda, take a look at your boss and walk out? And then the cell phone pings place him back in Colorado City, there at the home. He did not go straight to his mother`s, the way he said he did. But I want to get back to what you told me. Hailey was afraid of him?

JONES: Yes, ma`am. She told me...

GRACE: Why...

JONES: ... a number of times that she was afraid of him.

BILLIE DUNN: Why didn`t nobody tell me?

GRACE: Well, hold on, Billie. Hold on, Billie Dunn. What was she afraid of? What specifically would she say, Ms. Jones?

JONES: That she was afraid of him walking around at night. She said that he`d go in the bathroom and he`d use Billie`s phone and talk to people and then come out and just stand by her door. She said he -- she was just afraid of him. At this time, she was only, like, 11.

GRACE: Did she tell you anything other than him standing by her bedroom door at night?

JONES: No. She said he never tried any advances toward her or anything and...

GRACE: Did you ask her?

JONES: Yes, ma`am. I asked her a lot if he ever tried anything to her. And I told her, I said, If he ever tries anything, you tell your mom and your dad. I said, Don`t -- I said, He can`t -- he`s not going to get away with it, Hailey, if he ever touches you in any way.

GRACE: And what would she say? When you would tell her that, what would she say?

JONES: She said that she would and everything. And the last couple of months, I hadn`t seen her very much because her dad moved over to Colorado City. And she usually spends the night, sometimes the weekend with me, and I hadn`t seen her that much. But she always called me, almost every day.

GRACE: Have you shared your theory with your son, Hailey`s father?

JONES: Yes, I have. I told him that she was afraid of him.

GRACE: What did he say?

JONES: I don`t remember what he said. I know he was concerned, but I don`t really remember what he said. There were times he would talk to Billie, they would get into an argument. So I guess they just quit talking to each other.

snip

GRACE: Your son, Hailey`s biological father, he hasn`t been able to come on the show because he is out physically looking for Hailey. He is out looking for her. Where has he been looking?

CONNIE JONES, GRANDMOTHER OF MISSING CHEERLEADER HAILEY DUNN: In Odessa. He got a lead from somebody in Odessa, and he`s pursuing it.

GRACE: Do you know what the lead was?

JONES: That she was seen over there with this younger man. And he called me earlier today and he said that he talked to the lady that seen her. And I`m hoping and praying that is her.

GRACE: See, are you saying that there has been a credible sighting of Hailey in Odessa?

JONES: Yes, ma`am.

GRACE: Can you tell us about the sighting?

JONES: He said that they were on the side of the road with a sign, and he said that they (INAUDIBLE) dog and she thought the sign said dogs for sale. And so she stopped and the signs said please help with food or money. And she gave them $5. And she said she was positive that it was Hailey.

GRACE: Who was she with?

JONES: A younger -- a younger man, like maybe in his early 20s, late teens or something.

snip

GRACE: Miss Jones, it`s my understanding, from what I`ve read, from what I`ve heard, what I`ve been told, that you did not like -- you didn`t care for this boyfriend at the get-go. Why?

JONES: He`s suggesting that I had -- I don`t know. It`s just a feeling that I had. It doesn`t have anything to do with Clint or Billie, it`s -- I don`t know. It`s just a feeling. He didn`t look right to me.

GRACE: In what way, how did he behave?

JONES: He didn`t behave in any unusual way or anything, he`s just that -- I don`t know, I don`t -- it`s just a feeling that I have.

I'm trying to figure out something about the documents she printed at work and brought home. She's been with SA for a couple of years now. She says that true crime is a hobby of hers and she enjoys reading about it, the different brain thing, etc.

So answer this: why was the ONLY material they found (or least mentioned in the affidavit) dated from Sept to Oct of this year? It has a definite start and end point.

I have a theory but I want to hear what some of you say first...

I have no idea but would love to hear your theory.

I have no idea but would love to hear your theory.

well if i had to guess it would have to be either 1. the material isnt hers and she is covering for sa. OR 2. maybe there is some truth in what bd says that "they arent like us"...maybe in her mind sa is one of "them" that isnt like us and she was using these articles trying to help herself understand what might potentially be his problem. now, im not saying that i believe either of these versions but they are the only two that i could come up with that were positive in regards to bd...

now, tell us what your thinking :)

ooops... i was responding to what you quoted! LOL... nellie is slinking off to the coffee pot :/

just a thought but last night on NG she stated that the atm they went to and then got food and stopped by her moms house.

just a thought what if her mom is the one got drugs for her or just gave them to her, and protecting her by not admitting on tv. It could be that it was just pills. The ativan is not somthing that is nornally sold on street, no one really knows what they are.. but it is the same as xanax...maybe mom may have had the ativan prescibed to her...and DB went to get some.

Were they in scurry at the atm.. why drive all the way there and go by moms for a few minutes.. why not go to atm and store close by. .. unless the main reason for trip to scurry was to go see the mom for some reason... but odd to drive there if it is kinda out of the way to stay for a few minutes..

IMO she MAY be protecting her mom by getting a few pills from her.. not even buying them.. maybe that is what she is saying NO about she didnt technically buy then she may have given them to her.

So according to BD, if Hailey needed 10 dollars she was expected to ask SA for it? THAT IS REVOLTING. that poor kid.

I didn't take it that way. To me, this was BD's back-assward way of "proving" that Hailey and SA got along. In other words, "SEE??? She became so comfortable with him that she would go directly for him for $10 and I didn't have to be the middleman!" I don't think she meant that she was expected to ask SA for it. I think she was using that as an example of how "comfortable" Hailey eventually became with SA. She may have not liked him at first, but if she was willing to ask him for $10 then he couldn't have been that scary to her!

Mind you, I think that BD is full of hooey, but I think that was what she was *trying* to say.

This is in no way trying to accuse anyone. DD said he came home around 4:00 and found the door locked, so after knocking on the door and no one answered he had to crawl through the window to get in. Did DD not have a key to his own home or was the door bolted shut from inside?

BD worked at the hospital in Snyder/Scurry Co. SA picked her up from work and they went to the ATM there. Then BD said they drove to her Mom's house just a few minutes/miles from there. Hope this helps.

My $140.00 theory:
Not sure what type of vehicle SA drives, but I wonder... how many gallons of gas he could buy. AND how many miles he could drive (round trip). My gut says he went to work to get the.drugs and left to return home and wait for BD to getboff work. Paid cash for gas and maybe a little food...and headed in a direction AWAY from Scurry Co?

I see what you're saying. She does word things in an awkward, backwards way.

But my point is that by using that example she is highlighting the fact that HD used to have to ask SA for money. WHY would she have to rely on her mom's 25 yr old bf for spending money?

TRANSCRIPT;
00:08:56 It took some time, but she got over it, and her and shawn were able to joke around with each other.
00:09:02 She was able to go and ask shawn for ten bucks instead of telling me to ask him.
00:09:11 Things have gotten much better.

" She was able to go and ask Shawn for 10 bucks instead of asking me to ask him. "

This example highlights the family dysfunction perfectly imo.

That was my thought too. Maybe they have one of those chain things on. BUT, when you live with a family (i.e. more people than yourself) and not all members of the house are home, don't you leave the chain down?

I really wasn't going to go back and read those murder cases listed in the affidavits but curiosity got the better of me. I only looked at the ones that had a murderers name listed and stopped at the vampire one. The thing that bothered me was that several of these people are still alive and in jail. A few committed suicide. I think they should check to see if he has written letters to these people.

Let this be the day that Hailey is found.

With thoughts and love to poor Hailey who deserved so much better from her "adult" guardians

he did seem to be enjoying the moment, didn't he? I got the impression, that he could barely keep the smile off his face.

IMO he was high as a kite.

IMO, BD doublespeaks. That is a frightening and frustrating trait. I wonder whether she is aware of it.

Just to keep things as straight as they can be under the circumstances, I'm considering creating a spreadsheet of her statements (if I can find the time). Is anyone interested in helping?

Doublespeak: evasive, ambiguous, high-flown language intended to deceive or confuse. (per Webster)

BBM IMO It's also a very common trait among psychopaths

Maybe what she was trying to say was that while she worked 12 hour shifts, if HD needed say ten bucks, HD would ask BD to ask SA for it. Then HD got 'comfortable' enough to skip asking BD and going to SA directly. Maybe she used to call BD to have her contact SA for it? I don't know, that's just a guess.

  • #277
Anyone else notice how much SA looks so like AB, ZB Dad? Even down to the eye movements?

  • #278
BD knows that her daughter feels comfortable enough to ask SA for $10.
BD doesn't know that HD feels uncomfortable about SA standing in her doorway at night?

BD sounds like a 13 year old when she talks. I wonder if her teens ever wished she would grow up?

  • #279
IDK, but it just struck me as odd when BD first used Hailey's asking SA directly for 10 bucks as an example of a comfortable relationship. Didn't make sense - Hailey could have hated him and said "give me 10 bucks, you live here for free loser" or anything like that. It has bugged me since Billie used that to try to convince us that Hailey was comfortable with SA. It says a lot about what Billie thinks is important in a relationship. It also says a lot that it's the best example she could come up with. That tells me that Hailey had indeed NOT gotten comfortable with mom's creepy boy toy lurking in her house. JMO.

One thing I am curious about is the money found in Haileys room. Was all her xmas money there or had she spent some since xmas and where did she spend it.
