Wow, this is so sad and over a year later! Can’t help but think there’s a family somewhere wondering where their son has gone.

Has no one taken DNA from this guy? I know that maybe they didn’t do that because he was alive initially, and didn’t die in suspicious circumstance (ie homocide)

But if they put his DNA into a database like gedmatch or ancestry or something perhaps they could narrow it down massively. Find a more accurate origin of ethnicity and find a relative. If they find say a 2nd or 3rd cousin match. That narrows it right down to a hand full of people. Then you can start building a family tree around that person to connect a link and find if anyone in that family unit is missing or unaccounted for.

I’m just perplexed this sort of investigation has not been carried out. It seems like this case has got shockingly low descriptions and media.

I'm always surprised when I read about cases where a Jane Doe murder is solved 30-40 years later and the killer turns out to be the estranged spouse, and how the children were told the victim ran off.

When interviewed, the now adult children typically say they were suspicious about the story told to them as children but they never check for any Jane/John Does in the morgue that have been waiting to be identified for decades!

I dunno. Maybe it's simply a fear of finding out the truth and no news is good news.

Here's an example from 2021 where the victim was identified after 43 years. The estranged husband can't answer as he's already deceased. Just breaks my heart that a wife, mother, sister, friend, etc. can go unclaimed for 43 years.

There’s still hope for him. It’s only been a little under a year and a half, he’s probably still in someone’s memory. He’s a pretty distinct looking dude. The really short guy with the cool design in his haircut. Sounds pretty distinct to me.

Thinking of our JD. I am so sad that he has not been identified yet.

@EmiliaRT007 I am so sorry for the bullying you experienced and such serious depression already as a preteen. But I understand, because I felt the same way at that age. I really appreciate (for lack of a better word) your caring post for this young man. And I hope you are feeling much much different now. Early 20's can also be rough, but then it gets better. Please reach out to the good people around you if you ever again find you need help...

I had the thought that media isn't reporting a lot about this case because it was a suicide.
YET you are right- they could keep posting appeals for his possible identity without mentioning how he passed.

I definitely think people are missing him, but I suspect he wasn't near his relatives, but he was just too young to be having to try to survive on his own. JMO.

I can maybe help a bit. He looks slightly familiar to me. I remember a few days before John Doe was found, I was eating at a restaurant near the location (I’m from Houston.) There was a distinct busboy working there.
This isnt the first time this has been brought up online. I'm really hoping someone forwarded this info to LE

I can see him being a recent runaway. He may be from an abusive household. Although the only bruising on him was from when he hanged himself, he may have been verbally or emotionally abused by his parents/guardian(s). He may be a Mexican national or a native of a nearby country such as Guatemala or Nicaragua, somewhere in that region. It’s already been determined he is a Latino. He may have been a recent arrival to the US and came here illegally, all on his own to start a new life to escape whoever or whatever was hurting him. He still couldn’t get over it and the US was too much of a culture shock. So much going on and he couldn’t take it. That’s another theory. He could be anyone, honestly.

Sent him my prayers today hoping he gets identified. Letting him know one day we will know who he is and that people care about him. :)

I agree with most of your post but as far as this, I think it's equally likely he's lost one or both parents, or they may live in poverty or an unsafe area. He may have had to come to the U.S. alone, hoping to
find a home or job. He could be a victim of human smuggling, abandoned near the border. So many possibilities.

I can see that too! He could be just about anyone.

I did also read on a Facebook post connected with this case a group of people working a restaurant saying they thought they almost certainly recognised him as working there as a waiter or some sort.

UPDATE: I found the post where ANOTHER person says they recognise him as a busboy in a local restaurant in Houston.

I mentioned I recognized him as a busboy too!

Edit: @DS2021 quoted my post, silly me.

So I had mentioned I believe this busboy I spotted’s name is Manuel or Emmanuel. Someone brought up the missing teen Manuel Sut Pacajoj. He’s 5’2” 140 lbs. Looks very similar to our Doe.

Glad Manuel has been submitted according to the FB link. I am surprised there hasn’t been an update if it was done a year ago. I guess these things take time.

I know. I submitted a sighting report to NCMEC for John Doe, stating that I think I saw him working as a busboy at a restaurant a few days before his death. I believe that the busboy’s name was Manuel or possibly Emmanuel. I don’t think it was Manuel Sut Pacajoj. Manuel Sut Pacajoj is a bit too tall, as I said he’s 5’2”, and a bit too heavy, 140 lbs. Busboy was super duper tiny, about 4’10” I would say, looked like he weighed no more than 100 pounds. I can see Manuel S.P. also being our Doe. He went missing in 2020. He could have lost 28 pounds over time, especially in a year. When I was 9 I went down from 95 pounds (at 3’11”! We were poor but we would eat whatever we could get our hands on. We ate a LOT But I was naturally shorter, also due to having fetal alcohol syndrome.) to 60 pounds in 7 months. Then I got up to 150 when I was 15, 8 months later down to 110 and I have stayed in the 95-120 weight range (I am 5’2”.) He is an inch taller than the Doe but of course height most of the time in MP cases is just a guess from the family. I turned up in the hospital unidentified at 13, I was measured 4’10”. That’s what they put on my poster for ID. My parents when looking for me described me as being 4’7”-4’8”.

Edit: I do in fact believe John Doe is indigenous Mexican/Aztec. All the submissions I have seen have very indigenous sounding last names rather than ones of Spanish origin. The busboy I saw also looked indigenous. I believe that could help our search a bit. Doe looks native to me. He just has some Asian features. Native Americans tend to have some Asian features, especially in the eyes. Indigenous Mexicans or Central Americans in particular also tend to be very short. If you know of Isabel Sanchez Bernal (fka Mammoth Lakes Jane Doe) Doe Network estimates her to be 4’4” to 5’0”. It was narrowed down to 4’6” to 4’9”. She was confirmed to be indigenous too. And the missing indigenous boys are all around 4’10”-5’3”, even at around 17 or 18. I have a friend at school who is indigenous Mexican. She’s 4’5” at 18 years old. No medical conditions or anything, just very short. So I do think it’s just an ethnic trait.

I wouldn't rule out based on height, unless it's very different, because the height reported for a missing person could be a really rough estimate...

If I am searching for MPs I go 3 inches each side. So for him I would search MPs who are 4’10”-5’4” in this Doe’s case. As for weight anything from like 90-130 preferably but we can go up to maybe 160.

Thought I would suggest this missing boy. His name is Kendel Caal Chub. He is described as a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He went missing from Dallas in November of 2021. He was 14 at the time, so he fits Doe’s age range. He is 5 feet tall and weighs 140 pounds. He’s a bit heavier but could have lost weight. He doesn’t have a photo for comparison sadly. Just thought I’d throw a possible match out there.

I hope someone in Houston PD coordinates postering this kid’s picture to every HS guidance counselor in HISD and asking them to cross match that photo to any data they have about dropouts since say January 2021 - if this kid ever had the advantage of going to school here, he disappeared one day, and he probably had a photo for campus ID - and I wish there was a way to ask the current high school seniors in a five mile radius of the find site. Have you ever seen this guy, you are absolutely not in trouble.

I would agree with you. Add a photo of him (use his post mortem but I would touch it up, open his eyes, and close his mouth so he looks more “alive”.) His NCMEC reconstruction doesn’t really look that much like him, I feel like. He looks like he was probably a sophomore or a junior last school year. They ought to recognize him.

I think here’s another potential match!
His name is Marvin Choc Pop.
Hispanic male w/ dark brown hair and black eyes.
5’4” 115 lbs. A bit taller than our Doe but could be plausible. Weight matches.
13 at the time of his disappearance. Disappeared in Jun 2020 from New Jersey. He is originally from Guatemala.
Namus case created in early April this year! Someone is looking for him!
Here’s what strikes me. “May have traveled to Houston or New York”. The Doe was found in Houston. He is listed as being a teenage boy. If Marvin is our guy he would be 14 or 15 at the time of the body’s discovery. We don’t have a clear picture or Marvin’s face so I can’t point out any physical features that would rule him out. It’s a full body picture.
