The Houston Gamblers were a top team in the USFL in 1984-5, which means she couldn't possibly have died before 1984.

The Gamblers still have a website and this woman is posted there.

A "Gambler" Murder?

Includes the contact info for a reporter at the Houston Chronicle who is following the case.

What if she’s a cheerleader?

Based on the shoe size, I assume she's probably on the lower end of the height range.

97 Rock stood out to me. If she was found in ‘87 why does her shirt say 97. I did some googling and found 97 Rock was a radio station in Houston area operating July 24 1980-late 1986.

I have a Sam’s Place established May 5, 1977 on Richmond Ave in Houston.
Our Story | Sams Boat

I’m unfamiliar with it, much less what it would have been like in the 1980’s.

distance from Sam’s place in Richmond to where she was found is about 10 miles. If that was her hang out area that puts her on Houston’s West Side between downtown and Memorial City.

I’m guessing you are on their page going through the photos? Did you see the one with the 1985 cheerleaders with the 97 Rock Van?

I went through the list of cheerleader names vs namus, one by one and didn’t get any matches. That’s saying their names weren’t entered differently due to marriage, divorce, etc.

IMOO.

The address of Sam's Place was 5710 Richmond Ave. The restaurant still exists, just moved to 5720 Richmond Ave.

I found some matchbooks on ebay (I assume they gave them out at the restaurant) that has a very similar logo to the shirt this UP was wearing.

I also found a t-shirt on ebay listing some concerts that happened at Sam's Place in 1986. It seems like they had a summertime concert series that ran from the 1980's until the mid 90's.

My theory is maybe she went to one of these summertime concerts and got this t-shirt. If I'm taking a guess the concert may have been put on in collaboration with the aforementioned radio station (KHMX) posted by @Tbone144 since most of the bands listed lean rock. Maybe the concert was in celebration of the Houston Gamblers at the playoff games in 1984? She possibly could have gotten this shirt as either a patron of the concert, or as a worker of Sam's Place/KHMX.

Then again the shirt could have been second hand and completely unrelated, but who knows.
