Just DNA. The ME has to compare dentals. At least that is my understanding!

I wouldn't. Anytime I have a PM for smurfette, and they only have dentals Dr. D compares them, not sure if smurfettes dentals are available on namus or not(so that could be why) I was under the impression that namus only compared DNA samples, I will ask Dr. D about it.

I had been wondering about that for a while, especially since dentals can change but DNA cannot.

I was specifically thinking about Tina Velasco (again! https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/17827/58 ) when I asked that question. I know what you guys are going to say - she is far too old! However, another UID case that I have been following, which had an 18-25 age range, just got identified as a 37 year old woman.

I know the age makes Tina Velasco very unlikely, but other than the age discrepancy she just has it all. The location, the strong chin, the close set eyes, one eye slightly higher than the other, fairly petite build, narrow bridge on the nose and most of all that long dark brown, wavy hair that looks reddish at the ends...

I have been patiently waiting for her DNA tests to be complete, but she does have dentals. I was hoping that this would exclude her, as I just can't forget her. I have this feeling in my bones, I really think she might be Smurfette. I know I will get some flack for saying that, but its what I feel.

Yes. If fingerprints and/or dentals are in NamUs for both the MP and UID, NamUs should recognize the match if it is a match.

I would say DNA is the easiest/best comparison, depending on what kind of sample is available. If mtDNA is available, getting a match with mtDNA is a good start, but other comparisons have to be made, because even though you and I are not related we could have the same mtDNA.
Dentals are interesting, I submitted a MP for an UID in houston (ivy doe) and Dr. D went through every tooth, got to the last tooth and it wasn't until then that she could exclude the MP.

Being a formrr lurker of this case, I forgot this, but did pollen samples show Smurfette's possible past locations, if there were any pollen samples done off of her clothes?

If I remember correctly, they determined her possibly being from north texas by doing isotope testing on her teeth, I don't think they used any pollen samples.

Isotope and pollen testing were done on Smurfette. Both confirmed that Smurfette came from south Texas, probably Austin or Houston (the testing sone on the food she ate and the pollen pointed towards those two cities).

I remember asking Dr. D if the pollen and isotopes were also consistent with Mexico, but she said no. She said they were both consistent with a drier environment, not a humid and subtropical one.
