Putting “everyone unaccounted for on” - marked accordingly - would be the most helpful in this dire situation- identifying “the missing” then marking them found after they are located.
By the time these people are identified as deceased in the press their families/ next of kin/ close friends have been well informed IMHO

Maybe someone could take on the daunting task of making a list of the missing. It might not be bad if we all work together. I think it would be useful to have names to search media reports as to when they are found rather than randomly coming across another person found. Unfortunately some may be lost forever.

Experts say Camp Mystic's requests to amend the FEMA map could have been an attempt to avoid the requirement to carry flood insurance, to lower the camp's insurance premiums or to pave the way for renovating or adding new structures under less costly regulations."

MOO: This is egregious. I hope the families sue the camp owner's estate/family for every penny they have, and then some.

Someone from the NWS and the Texas Dept of Emergency management was supposed to call the Kerr County Emergency Management at 1:14 am. They are all in Kerrville and were not aware of the flooding in Hunt. They claim no one called them. (NWS alerts are hyper local and will only appear on phones located in the red area. Kerrville is not in the red area) All of the emergency management for Kerr County is in Kerrville.

Weather warnings gave officials a 3 hour, 21 minute window to save lives in Kerr County. What happened then remains unclear.

Federal forecasters issued their first flood warning at 1:14 a.m. on July 4. Local officials haven’t shed light on when they saw the warnings or whether they saw them in time to take action.

This is what I would suspect has been happening all along with Camp Mystic.

Despite having the families of very wealthy and influential people across the South choosing this camp for their daughters to spend summer weeks at, the infrastructure of Camp Mystic was able to fend off the expenses and zoning problems of building cabins in safer locations by changing zoning laws and regulations, rather than fix the problem.

Many names of the missing aren't listed. It seems like only friends and family members are the source. I'm sure there are families who don't feel comfortable talking about it publicly.

They have the missing list for Camp Mystic, but trying to figure out who these 161 missing people are will be like a needle in a hay stack. I'm on FB, and live in SA, so stuff about the flood pops up.

Aidan Heartfield was identified today. Adult Cabin. I know his dad was looking for him.

It's how the NWS cell phone alerts work. They are very brief, hyper local and designed for consumers to "get out of harms way". They aren't designed for "Emergency Management".

A month ago, I had a tornado warning at my house. The warning only included a portion of the county. (It ended up being a funnel cloud which quickly dissipated) Some people saw the funnel cloud and it was apparently right over my house!

We get these, too in our area. They're voluntary, you sign up for them. Its usually for severe thunderstorm warnings, sometimes tornado warnings. Sometimes they're texts, lately for flood warnings. We don't get the highly dangerous flash floods, but we do get some that close local roads overnight or for a few hours. It's nice to get those so you know to take another route to work or running errands.

So the Secretary of DHS, Janet Napolitano, who was responsible for FEMA in the Obama adinistration allowed the FEMA amendment given to Camp Mystic so that they could continue to build on a flood plain.

Sounds more like they should be suing FEMA for its decision in 2013 that allowed Camp Mystic to build on the flood plain. The owners of Camp Mystic had the approval of FEMA to expand when FEMA removed them from the flood map in 2013.

I don't understand this. Are they saying they removed the actual buildings or just took them off a map?

You think the secretary of DHS was involved in that decision? Waivers are usually granted by experts in the area who can evaluate accommodations made (berms, culverts, etc) and determine that a waiver is valid.

They removed the specific areas where the cabins were located from what I believe was the highest level of flood risk.

Apparently experts are looking and this and trying to figure out why. Usually it's due to accommodations made to alleviate or mitigate flood risk.

This is also around the time they lost ACA accreditation.
