TX TX-Hunt, Overnight flooding at Camp Mystic, all girls camp. Unknown number of missing. July 4, 2025

Yikes, I didn't mean to suggest there was anything shady going on. Just that I personally feel like I missed something.

I suppose if they had a lot of unidentified bodies and a big batch of DNA results came back, that would be a way to cut the missing numbers pretty dramatically. Did the number confirmed dead rise?

I didn't mean to imply anything shady was going on, sorry. They're probably doing the best they know how to do.

Oh yeah sorry, I didn't mean you were. Just wanted to be clear that I wasn't either.

It must be kind of tricky to protect victims' privacy and balance that with accountability to the public. Not all families want their loved one's name released to the media. But if officials had a live list that they were updating, everyone's identity would be revealed regardless of their families' wishes.

News article confirming that indeed only 3 flood victims in Kerr county are still missing.
I think this is a testament to the grit and tenacity of thousands of volunteers from Texas and beyond who came together to search for victims of this devastating flood.

To search in these horrible conditions - sweltering heat, deep mud, mess, stench- horrific.
Grateful to the amazing volunteers who came together to get this done.
Praying that the last three victims are recovered so we can turn this page.

The problem is, I still can't find anything that's not using Margaret's obit as a reference/source, and the obit doesn't confirm she's been found. Believe me, I am looking.

MOO
Kerr County (official) list of deaths is not being released publicly.
So any deaths would need to come from word of mouth.

Families can send press release, a family member may say something on social media or may not say anything publicly if they are found. They may tell friends and family and word gets around.

One victim's family announced his death on SM, then deleted the post. (My hunch is they may have had trolls)

They already had a memorial for Margaret and if she has been confirmed deceased, the family may not want to say anything publicly. MOO....

Early on I saw (but cannot now find) a news article saying that a Camp Mystic child had been located deceased and the family was choosing not to release her name to the media. It was early enough that I'm not even sure she was one of the girls publicly reported missing, and I don't know if they chose to release her name later, but it's possible we'll never have official confirmation of the status of every girl.

I think this is very likely considering the fact that there are only 3 still missing. (From multiple sources)

I guess what I still have not been able to figure out, with the loss of life in Texas, is how this happened, and no one knew or was worried about rain, flooding. I have lived places where there are flash floods, but it seems to me, that we had a warning on the news, we "knew" that there were warnings, and alerts, even before the internet.

Yesterday, I received a "flash flood" alert on my phone, it was a very loud piercing sound.

Why didn't that happen in Texas?

I’ve heard many things reported and speculated, and I’m sure we will not know until an investigation is completed.
Local News stations have reported these stories- from interviews, and they are all over the place depending on where the survivors were located.

- river water depth sensors were not working near Hunt, the real time sensor updates did not match the height of the actual river- as per some meteorologists
- some sensors were off line- giving no reports to weather stations
- power outages impacted warning systems
- evacuation routes were covered in water- people could not get out even if they were warned, they were stranded as water was rising
- first responders acting on 911 calls asked for a warning to go out- as some access roads were covered in water- they could not get to flood victims- but supervisors did not send until hours later
- warnings were received by some people and they didn’t heed them, others evacuated in time

What seems to be misunderstood is the geographic size of the flooding. The storm sat over a large area of land, and as water rose and went downstream it impacted one county then another then another, on small streams that led to rivers, and more than one river.
Colorado River
Guadalupe River
Nueces River
The land area is hundreds of square miles in the center of the state, and then all that water impacts all of the counties to the southeast. The rivers flow from northwest to southeast in Texas. So all fo that water goes somewhere if it isn’t held in dams/ at lakes.
Eventually it goes into the Gulf of Mexico (I refuse to call it the Gulf of America).

All in all it is heartbreaking to imagine
IMO

My heart breaks for families in this situation
Today is July 20 and some waited hours to find out if their child or loved one was among survivors.
Some held on hope for days that their child or loved one may be found alive.
Some have waited weeks, hoping the body of their loved one would be recovered.

I can feel the suffering, and know the numbness that can take over so people can cope with the nightmare that is true.

And then- all of this is playing out in the public eye. Every day there are pictures of children on the news, interviews with survivors, the damage, the videos of the early hours with the screams coming from RVs taken by the water.

I hope the families can find private ways to support each other, mourn the loss, and put their loved ones to rest. Some families lost a pet, a child, two children, both parents, one parent, a spouse, a brother or sister and their children- a family of four.

Heartbreaking

I was at the George Lewis funeral home recently for an unrelated viewing/ visitation and can confirm that three Mystic girls were there recently and one was M - imho
M’s obituary is listed by this funeral home - considered the “best” in Houston. I can attest it is the most elegant - albeit all funeral homes are creepy. The side salon set up with bar area (with bartenders) had a marble fireplace flanked on either side by large framed photographic portraits of Barbara Bush on one side and President George H.W. Bush on the other side. The funeral home of Presidents….. (one of them anyway)

Five girls from Camp Mystic at George Lewis Funeral Home.

Three had celebrations of life in the same manner that Margaret did.

Two had Catholic funerals. (Body required) Of those two, one mentioned a burial, but said the location was private.

I think many of the families were advised that they needed privacy. It's too easy for some yahoo to show up for a public visitation and start snapping photos etc.

Heck someone even snapped pics at Savannah Soto's (young woman who was murdered in San Antonio) visitation and then leaked them.

Cameras everywhere and sign in for non Mystic visitation when I was at G Lewis - this week - assuming it was tighter for these poor families.
Five total is understandable/ to be expected. My friend had to wait to make arrangements for her parent as there were simultaneously three Mystic girls there at the moment per funeral home staff so they put her off very early in the week. The others were already taken care of. They were busier than usual apparently. Sad.

That’s despicable that someone would snap photos at a visitation and post them. Unethical and nasty. Who in the world would think to do this?
It’s sad and awful that these parents have been hounded and harassed.

The case where they snapped pics is totally unrelated to this and happened in Dec 2023.

Still.... If it happens here, I'm sure it happens other places.

The families were likely advised...MOO, especially considering how large the crowds would be for the Mystic Campers etc....

Just MOO.....

The public has been well informed of the process as far as I can tell.
There are press conferences regularly from many cities, and on the news every single day.

There were phone numbers set up for people to call in missing loved ones, or found loved ones.
People did not know family members were missing- they knew some were out of town- and in places where there was no service. It took time for some to return home, or not come home, or be listed as a person who checked into a camp ground.
And yes, samples from bodies recovered were sent to labs- and many of them came back at the same time.

The magnitude of the situation is greater than people imagine
It is a lot of land, mud, debris of all kinds, and it is taking a huge amount of man power to recover the bodies. If people think of hurricane sized event they will be closer to the reality.

I’m amazed at how many people they have recovered- I wasn’t sure it was possible. The miles and miles of ten to 20 feet of mud and debris to me is daunting- and then the water. As time passes what they are recovering becomes tougher to find and more decomposed.
Kudos to those who have not given up- as the missing numbers decreases it feels better to hope no one will be left behind.
They can’t be swept out to sea- so they ought to be able to be found. And I suppose there are patterns- where one is found others may also be.

Heartbreaking- much respect for those doing the work to recover all of the missing!!
And, yes I know the missing and deceased have names. Scrolling down the list, seeing the cities they were from, and that some are siblings, or parents and children. It is nauseating.

Hold your family members close, be thankful for each moment with them, be forgiving, be kind, be more patient, be more tolerant= live without regret

So many were children, the holders of our dreams of the future, of brighter tomorrows. They would want us to learn from their loss- surely we can manage to do that.
Heartbreaking

I have very strong reasons to believe that this was Lucy Dillon. Her name was floating around VERY early on in a small amount of unofficial spaces as having been found deceased, as in less than a day after, but took a long time to be mentioned at all in MSM in any way. She may have even been one of the girls found with Dick Eastland.
