The Sam Houston State University PD was notified ... by the Huntsville PD that human remains were found on property that is not part of the main Sam Houston State campus.

They were on the property line of the Raven Nest Golf Course located near the I-45 service road.

... the remains appear to have been there for some time.

Uni police are investigating in coordination with state and local law enforcement.

There aren't a lot of missing people in NamUs from Huntsville. Noted one woman who was a student at the nearby university when she went missing but that was 1991 that she disappeared. If "some time," as per the quote above, means nearly three decades then Maria Kimbrell (NamUs MP # 7447) will have to be ruled out in my opinion. They have her DNA so that should help immensely.

Remains found near golf course identified as convicted child sex criminal

Authorities say the remains belong to Pedro Garza, 59, of San Antonio. Garza was released from the Walls Unit in June 2016 after serving time for sexual assault of a child.
