I don't think she is the same person. I feel like this Jane was not from this area at all, and not familiar.

I was looking at her case recently. What happened to the girl named as "Cathy/Kathleen" in a photo? Are there any ways that we could find clues in that direction? Possible to get a sheriff to call a school to check? I'm pretty sure someone knows her out there

Something has just dawned on me; but wouldn't prisoners of this prison have to be from Texas? Assuming she was visiting someone she knew, you'd think either her or her family would have had to have spent time in Texas to meet them.

Another option could be a prison pen pal, which could also explain why the prisoners didnt recognize her; they may have never seen her. But i dont know how common that sort of thing was at that time.

Are there any other reasons she would have gone there if she didn't know an inmate? Maybe it being Halloween had something to do with it? JMO

I don't think a prisoner would have to be from there to be incarcerated, they would only have had to had committed their crime in TX. I know women had prison penpals back then, I just don't know how they learned about a particular inmate in order to write to them, unless they were notorious, like Manson.
She could have been meeting someone who worked there, I've always thought of that as a possibility.

There were pen pal societies that advertised in magazines, including church publications, national weeklies like Grit, hobby newsletters, etc. You could write to missionaries, soldiers, and people who shared your interests as well as prisoners. Most of them were aimed at adults but they didn't check for age usually. (I used to write to several people overseas that I "met" through a pen pal club advertised in the Girl Scout magazine.)

I don't think she behaved like a scared teenage runaway. She seems to be in a strange town but she didn't ask for help or advice, just directions. I think it's likely that she had been on her own for a while.

Thanks for shedding some light on how people ended up with prisoner penpals. I vaguely recall hearing about penpals being advertised. I never used to read those ads in the back of magazines.

I thought both of them had the same eyebrows and nose. Especially their noses- their contours look way too similar. Though their lips are slightly different.

I think that's right- I think she felt like she had a handle on things and had done something like it a time or two before. Unfortunately, the level of comfort she had probably ended up getting her killed (ie. she thought she was savvier than she actually was).

Probably some combination of being held in a sleeper cab, being parked away from other trucks, and perhaps gagged.

She had ligature marks around her neck, indicating slow strangulation. And a pair of pantyhose was used as a garrote.

So he was probably controlling her with the pantyhose around her neck while beating her and abusing her.

What about this? What if she lived with her mom and she died and her mom told her that her father was in prison? So she had no other family and so she would become ward of the state? That's when she decides to take off to find her father? Maybe we could go back and look at obituaries from the surrounding counties and look to see if there are any deaths where the only surviveing member is a daughter. I really think this could lead to finding​ her. I really think she didn't have any family left to report her missing! IMHO 🌻

Did they investigate people who had recently been released from the prison? Maybe someone wrote to her and said they were getting out soon but he was released before she got there to meet him?

It's possible but I think unless her farther had been incarcerated since she was an infant and had no interest in her, he would have recognized her. But anything is worth pursuing IMO. It would be a lot of combing though

I have read through most of the thread, but it is possible I missed some information.
I was trying to think of the reasons why a young teenage girl would be heading for a prison so late. A possible scenario I see is that she may have grown up in foster care/ group home with other kids that she would consider siblings. Years pass and they either remain close or lose touch. But, what if she heard that one of those "siblings" was in jail near Huntsville and she decided to go see him? It maybe the only family she had. No one may have even known she was going there. She may have been unrecognizable to him if they hadn't seen each other since they were kids. Or perhaps she received the wrong information and/or was headed to the wrong prison.

Switching gears real quick to the "Kathy" angle:
I've seen a lot of debate about her hairline, lips, eyebrows, etc and how they match up to WCJD. But looking at the photo today, I noticed one feature that I haven't seen discussed: her toes. She has a very distinctive "Greek foot" (her toe line peaks at the second toe). In the photo, it's most noticeable on her right foot, since her left is at an odd angle to the camera.
That's a feature that time and her injuries would not have changed. If WCJD doesn't have it, it'd be a solid rule out.
I assume no one has that information handy, but surely LE would know that from the autopsy photos, and they've given out other physical descriptors, so if we asked, they might tell us.
