I'm just having trouble making the leap to the WCJD... I just feel like she doesn't look like WCJD not at all.

I go back and forth about this, myself. To me, the biggest connection between "Kathy" and WCJD is the story. You have two middle-class, 14ish runaways, trying to visit someone in two Texas prisons 100 miles from each other, over the span of 3 to 5 months. There just can't be that many girls who fit that description.

Just looking at Kathy's picture and the WCJD post-mortems, though, I don't jump out of my seat and shout "That's her!". But then again, looking at the three different sets of post-mortems (the black and white set, the color set, and the funeral home one), I also wouldn't have known those were all the same person either. Given that, and the fact that she's physically similar in a lot of other ways, I still think Kathy's a pretty good lead.

He says he had a crush on her, and knew he didn't have a chance with her because of the age difference.

Funny- when I heard that a 12 year old boy had spent a week hanging around the pool with a cute 14 year old girl, I immediately suspected that might have been the case.

I guess there’s no chance she gave him a lock of hair to remember her by? J

If he was *really* into her, he might have stolen her hairbrush lol. I know a kid who did that. But doubt he would have it after all this time, lol

Has Connie Minchaca ever been looked at? She was a habitual runaway with an older boyfriend. It doesn't mention if he went to prison but. Now if she was WCJD she would have hitchhiked to him.
Possible?
They look quite similar to me

I don't see her mentioned in this thread but I can't find thread #1 to search there. She has DNA submitted in Namus though so she'd already be ruled out against this Jane Doe who also has DNA in Namus.

I think this case has only 1 thread.

Do we know if she was pregnant?
I'm thinking she ran away from home to go visit her boyfriend, who was in jail. If he were already a jailbird, it makes sense he wouldn't want to bring any additional attention on himself...like a murdered girl who had been seeking him out.

I understand about the possible DNA rule out by default, but I did read about one jane doe and one missing girl that had been ruled out as a match and years later it was proved to be her.
Part of the reason why I think it's worth le double checking on some of these missing girls. For example Laureen Rahn

(snpd for focus)

Theresa has a tattoo on the back of her right shoulder.
WCJD has no tattoos, so this would automatically rule out Theresa.

I know, it makes me nervous that matches might get missed but I was told quite definitively a couple of weeks back by Dustin Driscoll at Namus on another case: "If you see DNA marked as “Complete” for each case, they would have hit in the DNA database, so you do not need to send those matches in as they automatically search against each other."

It seems fairly black and white and maybe processes are now pretty streamlined so there's no chance of errors? Hopefully?

If you feel strongly though then you could always email and double check.

Creech has been the only one on that list that has even remotely piqued my interest in this case. However, I highly doubt that she could have stayed alive and traveled to TX in that time. Just my opinion. I don't think WCJD is/has ever been reported, sadly.

Has anyone ever written to a crime podcast/national crime tv show about this case?

There hasn't been a podcast to my knowledge. No idea about a TV programme.

I've brought her up in a podcast that I was involved in, but to my knowledge, there are none that are dedicated to her. I have been trying to push her story to several media groups, but so far, none have decided to go with it.

Is there a local news outlet that may be interested in running the story? A local station picked it up Arroyo Grande Jane Doe's case and featured it last fall, and both the Henderson PD and the stations FB pages shared the story. It was well publicized and the tips from that broadcast led to her being exhumed for isotopes, as the detective said in a follow up story they received tips from all over the country (including from me :takeabow:)

I think they were overwhelmed by the public's response.

She's someone's daughter... so why hasn't her family come for her in 37 years?

Hi all! Just a quick question. Does anyone know if inmates were even released at the individual units back then or have they always processed out from the Huntsville Unit? You all are awesome for your dedication to this poor young girl!

I think the prison is an accidental red herring and whoever pointed out that she might have been using it as a landmark because it was near where she was going was right.
