That is interesting. If we could get records of who stayed...couples names that stayed in that time period...might be a good start.

Is there a way to search company owners for businesses in the US and look back historically? I know that in my country there is a centralised database of all registered company owners but not sure if that's the same over there. I'd happily contact the owners of the time if there was a way to track them down.

I know...I don't know how long hotels keep records of who stayed...in the 80s some things were computerized and some weren't. Being a small hotel who knows...we'd probably need nights of Oct 28 and 29 maybe... And see if there are couple with an extra person in their party.

I don't know of any national databases, but the Texas state government ought to have records of the business licenses. Might even be on line.

does the media really need to say that WCJD was "attractive"?

I've also seen "voluptous" and.or "chesty" which really boils my potato. She was 14-16. You should not describe a 14 year old as "chesty".

It would be exciting if the old registers were stored in the basement or an old cupboard when they were finished with instead of being chucked out. Just in case the tax wallahs ever wanted to look at them again.

Sorry, but that actually made me chuckle. Where in the world did you see that?! Was it in an actual article or just someone commenting?

I tried to look through the online deeds website for Bee County to see if I could see at least the owner of record at the time, but I didn't get too far with it. I wasn't able to find anything beyond the current owners.

The "attractive" was in a dead tree media piece on WCJD. The commenting on her 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 was on a online social media place.

A lot of the state records are stored in the archive that the University of Texas maintains. I don't have a pointer right offhand but I think it's under the University of Texas library website.

Did anyone ever just call hotel and ask if they have records of who stayed in 1980s. I don't know if they can tell us though or if we got a couple name what would we say?

You know, you're right, thats the simplest thing. I am outside of the US so can't call them but I will send an email and ask if they owned it back then or if they know who did and who would have records.

Look back through this thread for when this girl was first brought up. There was quite a bit of research done, but I don't remember what the results were.

Is the general consensus here that WCJD is around 14, rather than 16? Just to me but in the post-mortem pics she doesn't look mature enough in the face to be 16.

Though I agree that she looks extremely young, she could have still been 16 or older in my opinion. Judging age based on facial features of PM pictures is not exact science and I know girls who are 18-19 and could still easily pass for 13-14 year olds. I hope that didn't sound harsh because I didn't intend it to sound that way at all ;) Especially because I can totally see what you mean!

The age estimate is not just based on her facial appearance. They did a full anthropological examination on her bones and teeth when they exhumed her about 10 years ago. Age estimates based on anthropological examination are usually pretty accurate within a year or two on persons under 20. The estimates are less accurate as the subject gets older.

She must have been fooling herself that her claim to the waitress of being "nineteen" would ever have worked. Maybe she didn't expect it to work and she was just fobbing off irritating questions?

The current owners of the Beeville Inn did not own it in 1980 and do not know who did or whether there would be records from that time

Did you make the call? Great!

I emailed them. I've been looking at the U of T libraries site to try and see if there are some state records that might show the previous owner but still working on that.
