Eeek, she laughed at mom for trying to pull her out of the truck? Some attitude on a 14 yr old. I'm just going to guess there are some unhealed wounds in the family to begin with because I don't think a happy , confident and MATURE 14 yr old does things like this. There has to be a bit of a .... dysfunction of sorts going on for her to think it's ok.

Because if there were problems in the home and she felt alone, worried, upset etc and then you add the normal pressures and hormones and emotions of a child that age, they are prime picking for some sick ***** to come in and take advantage of and
'life with me will be so much better' type of language will be believed.

Personally, I just do not get the attraction some of these young girls have toward these older men; I would have thought anyone more than a couple of years older than me who was interested in "that way" was super creepy and disgusting. Yet it keeps happening, it seems.

Probably low self esteem on the girl's part. Also, family life, maybe a father or father figure not being in the picture (not in Haylie's situation). Girl gets attention form the older guy who validates her existence (in her mind) and makes her feel needed in life. Plus being young and naive, these girls do not have the life experience to properly evaluate the repercussions of their decisions.

I hate to see this again and again. It scares me as I have daughters who I have to be on constant patrol of to ensure this does not happen to them.

I agree with you that this is "super creepy and disgusting". It is so sad.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An Amber Alert remains in effect for a missing 14-year-old girl. We are now getting a look at the 33-year-old man she is believed to have taken off with. They say he was a man who they had trusted.

Harris County deputies say they've not yet found Haylie White, 14, or Jacob West, 33, Both have been missing since Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say Haylie was last seen with West leaving her northwest Harris County home.

"She's not answering, not texting," said Haylie's mother Jan Nixon. "She erased her Facebook (profile)."

It's been more than 24 hours since Nixon saw her daughter Haylie.

Nixon said, "She's not thinking about everybody that loves her."

Nixon says Tuesday afternoon Haylie left her house with West, a former neighbor she is romantically involved with who has his own daughters around Haylie's age.

Haylie's father Jimmy White said, "To be honest with you, she was involved with him behind my back. I just neglected to see it. Now that I see it, she needs help. Both of them need help."

Much to Nixon's dismay, the two climbed into West's 2005 silver GMC Envoy and took off with no idea where they'd end up.

"I tried to pull her leg to get her out of the truck, but she wouldn't get out," Nixon said. "She just kind of laughed at me."

Now scared for their daughter's safety, Haylie's parents struggle to get her back home, using fliers, phone calls and pleas on television.

"If you're watching, Haylie, please come home, because we need you here," White pleaded.

They hope anyone who sees their daughter helps to return her.

"I just want her home," Nixon said.

Haylie is 5 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has short brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a tie-dyed shirt and blue jeans.

West is said to be driving a 2005 silver GMC Envoy with the Texas license plate #AT42794. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has brown eyes and short brown hair.

The Amber Alert is still active, and the FBI is involved in the search.

When I was her age, I liked boys who were older.... like 16-18. But I was not allowed to date, and so these crushes eventually went poof. I NEVER would have been interested in a guy in his 30's. And certainly not one who looked like this guy. Ugh.

This guy knows better, there's nothing mentally wrong with him, he knows it's wrong, he just does not care. He's probably flattered that a pretty young woman finds him attractive (although I can't see why.)

No, I'm sure he wouldn't want some man pursuing his own daughters, but that's beside the point in his mind. This is about HIM, and what HE wants. He's disgusting!

I pray that they find this girl before something terrible happens.

I watched this movie last year not really sure what it was about. I must warn you some scenes are disturbing and you can guess why due to the subject matter. But the way this story plays out seems to happen all day , every day across the country and probably the world , that I think it's a VERY important movie. Give it a try . Just brace yourself.

I never had a father in my life however when a older man, boy would hit on me at age 14 it would creep me out. When I was 18 and a 30 year old man would hit on me, it would creep me out. I just don't understand how a 14 year old wouldn't find this sick and twisted.

I agree with others who suggest they are long gone and not still in the area. they are hiding out and isn't it all just so darned romantic. *shudder* It's them against the world, doncha know.

I fear for this girl if she decides she's bored with being on teh run, or wants to check in with her family, because now that this sicko has her in his control and completely dependent on him, she is in danger should she ever decide to try to take a step from his side.

He has manufactured this risky, fugitive situation where they are on the run against a cruel world. A team of two. He has left job, family, including daughters this girls age. For him there is no going back, and he will drag kicking and screaming with him if she suddenly decides she is not with him "willingly" anymore.

Hope they find them soon.

For his real family, this is a horror. If he has not molested his children, one would have to think that the idea he wants to be another girl their age, means it's crossed his mind. Hopefully his own children are safe. Please God !

I have posted on this subject before in other threads. As a young girl, I was into older men. For me, there was a great power element to it. It feels powerful when a girl can lead others around by the nose. Magnify that feeling of power by about a hundred when the guy will risk his life and freedom for the chance to be led around.

I was from a normal, middle class home with a very loving, attentive, stay-at-home-mom and a white collar dad. I was an all-A student. I was not abused or neglected during my childhood. I just discovered that I could spin things a little and control grown men, and I liked it.

As an adult looking back on myself, I can say that I knew exactly what I was doing and it was all by choice. I may not have been able to foresee every possible consequence that could have followed, and I'm sure I minimized some of the dangers I exposed myself to, but I absolutely was not groomed or even, in most cases, sought out. In almost every case, I did the seeking and drew in men that probably would not ordinarily have dreamed of looking at a young teen girl.

I can only recall feeling grossed out one time, in the case of a high school teacher. I didn't actually think he'd respond to me due to his position, but he did, and I didn't care for it.

I understand the concept that it's always the older person's fault as a matter of law, and the general consensus that it's the guy's responsibility as the older person to resist, but I know from experience that the girl is not always a victim in the way most people seem to think.

I DID have an actively involved single father in my life, and when I was 16 I was dating a 28 year old. Mind you, I lived in my own apartment and paid my own bills- so I was old for my age.

He was cute though, not old and fatherly looking at all. He looked like AC Slater in saved by the bell, but with shorter hair. He seemed younger too, he was a college student and single- no baggage. It didn't seem weird at ALL to me at the time. In fact, he is still "young like," still a bachelor- Now he would feel way too young for me even though he's 12 years my senior.

But he wasn't a father, you know? It was totally different when a dad I babysat for would hit on me or something- it was GROSS and weird then. I don't know why the distinction.

I am going to theorize that girls who look a lot older, tend to get more attention from older guys than younger guys. If you're wanting attention for whatever reason, you take it where it is plentiful- and older guys are more "assertive" than younger guys with their affection. Sometimes it being readily available and generously doled out makes it easier to get caught up in I guess.

And some girls enjoy the power element of their blossoming sexuality, as a previous poster pointed out up thread a few posts... for sure. I definitely enjoyed the power element of my sexuality more than I should have as a teenager.

I'm so worried for her, because at fourteen I doubt she has ever lived away from home. It may sound great when fantasizing about it with your 30-something boyfriend... but I imagine she will get homesick rather quickly. Miss her things, her friends, her parents, her HOME. Unfortunately, at that point she will probably realize just how permanent this man wants this 'escape' to be.

I pray they can find her (possibly through his bank account?? they have to be paying their way somehow and cash can't last them forever), so she can get back in school and back with her family before she gets pregnant with this pervert or worse.
