GUILTY TX - James Faith, AA tech director, fatally shot walking his dog, Dallas, 9 Oct 2020 *ARRESTS/wife*

  • #521
I saw this crime showcased on a TV show earlier this year. Reprehensible. JF seemed like a nice guy; his wife lied about him being abusive, etc. It was sickening that she orchestrated his murder, then acted like a victim & tried to get away with this. Glad they caught her & her would-be bf via the text messages, etc.

I do feel bad for their daughter, though - she's lost both parents through the horrible action(s) of her mother.

From the link:

"Mrs. Faith, I'm not sure why you're crying." US District Judge Jane Boyle said before the gavel sounded. "What you did was a betrayal. Boyle sentenced Faith to life without parole for orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot by tricking a disabled veteran into gunning down her husband, Jamie Faith, outside their north Oak Cliff home in October 2020.

"You're pure evil," Boyle told her, "Not to mention disgusting."

[..]

"He thought he was the only person that could save you," Boyle told her. "You tricked him because you thought his brain wasn't working."

[..]

"There's just some people who have devious minds," the judge said.

[..]

Calvert [Asst US Attorney] said she used lies to "weaponize Darrin Lopez."

[..]

"It's simply an agony we'll live with for the rest of our lives," Snyder said. [Jamie's best friend Jason Snyder]. .."I miss my friend."

6/21/22 -- Dallas woman sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating husband's murder

I agree with the retired US District Attorney that spoke to Fox4 news today that being convinced through Jennifer's manipulation and lies is not a defense for DL.

However, reading the judge and US Asst Attorney Calvert's statements today, I think DL will be given consideration for mitigating factors at sentencing. As I posted earlier, I don't see him going to trial -- at least that's my hope for Jamie's family and friends.

This horrific murder will stay with me for a long time. I just can't fathom the couple walking out the door with their dog in tow, and Jennifer knowing all along that Jamie would never step foot alive inside their home again. Hard to wrap my head around this kind of evil. JMO

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Jennifer Faith, the Oak Cliff woman who convinced her boyfriend to shoot her husband to death, was sentenced today to life in prison for orchestrating the murder plot.

[..]

The Plot to Kill Jaime Faith was featured on 48 Hours - you can watch the full episode here.

Though some may disagree with me on this, I strongly feel that JF was more responsible for the murder of her husband than the would-be bf DL. Yes, DL pulled the trigger - but, JF manipulated/lied to him about being abused, etc. And, she set the whole thing up. If not for her, the crime would not have occurred.

I still think DL should be in prison for life as well. However, he's not the one who set the wheels in motion re: this crime.

Note that JF could easily have gotten divorced - given that she was obviously unhappy in her marriage. People do this all the time. The fact that she chose to have her husband killed (to get out of her marriage so she could allegedly be with DL) is sickening.

She deserved a life sentence without parole as she's the personification of evil. She destroyed the life of her poor husband, her daughter's life and that of DL, a disabled war veteran. Her cruelty knows no bounds. It will be interesting to know what happens to DL. While it's never right to kill anyone, how she manipulated him just beggars belief and putting him in prison will achieve nothing IMO. I hope the judge shows some compassion.

Do we know when he is next before the Court?

^^rsbm

Unlike Jennifer that was convicted in federal court, DL is being prosecuted by the State, and his next hearing is 6/24 at 9 AM.

DL has an announcement hearing on 6/24/22. An announcement hearing is sometimes where the defendant changes his plea or decides to go to trial.

Announcement - Hearing at which it will be decided whether your case will be handled through a plea or if it will go to trial.

FYI Amber wasn't his biological daughter. He adopted her when she turned 18, as noted in the below article. Not sure how old she is now.

To be honest I don't think JF started all this just to be with DL. In the 48 Hours episode investigation, it revealed that she had actually thought of doing this previously (before she had ever met Jamie). She told (assumed) lies about abuse before, but her targeted accomplice wasn't as willing as DL.

Right - I remember this from the doc. Though, the daughter did seem to think of JF as her father even though he wasn't her biological dad. The doc. described him as having a good relationship with her, etc.
Agree. The couple had been married for 15 years when Jamie was murdered and from the photos in the linked MSM, I'd say he was father to the daughter for the majority of her life. The man putting a roof over your head, nurturing you, and being there for you is your father-- versus the DNA donor. JMO

I didn't want to watch the murder as featured on 48 Hours until Jennifer was sentenced. Today, I learned that DL already admitted to authorities killing Jamie (as requested by his co-conspirator). Hopefully, we'll soon be hearing that he's changed his plea to guilty.

Special thoughts for his family, friends, and co-workers.

From the 48 Hours Preview.

The experts on this case said that JLF is one of the most brilliant psychological manipulators they have ever experienced in their entire career.

“During the course of our investigation, we found her second husband – she’s had 3 – and when we interviewed him, he revealed to us – we didn’t know until actually the interview itself – that she had done the same thing to him. He was on the verge of murdering her first husband when she called off the hit”.

No words. I wonder if husband No. 1 was Amber's father and the reason JLF called off the hit.

What's extremely disturbing about this case isn't just the horrific crime that happened, but that JF & DL could have gotten away with this. They got caught because of the text messages they sent to each other. IIRC from the 48 hours segment, that was the crux of the evidence against them.

I don't know if either of them tried to delete the messages or not, but it seemed obvious that they were using their regular smartphones - I think.

Court documents say that during the month of the murder, JLF and DL exchanged 14,363 calls and texts. She deleted the texts and factory reset her phone, however investigators were able to recover the deleted texts from DL’s phone.

OK, so based on this: If they hadn't been able to retrieve the deleted texts from DL's phone, then they wouldn't have had the proof they needed to convict them. In any case, glad they were able to get these texts.

I honestly don't know much about the logistics re: deleting text messages from phones/computers. If you delete them, obviously you can't see them anymore. But, it sounds like they can be retrieved - at least in some cases. That being said, if you do a factory reset on either a phone or a computer, my understanding used to be that the information is gone for good....but it sounds like that's not always the case.

One way is, If you backup your phone to the cloud, that can be subpoenaed and will contain everything unencrypted.
Also if the other person didn't delete them, I guess you'll have them.
