I've caught myself nodding off since lunch but I see Lopez doing the same! But I do think he's medicated -- he's somewhat a lump, no emotion, sitting in a chair at the defense table. JMO

7/25/23

This week, Darrin Lopez is on trial in Dallas for murder, accused of carrying out the murder. A police sergeant testified this morning that James Faith was shot seven times — three bullets in the head, three in the chest and one in the groin. Lopez’ attorney in opening statements said he plans to show that Lopez, a combat veteran with a head injury and post traumatic stress disorder, was tricked by the woman he loved into shooting the man she claimed was subjecting her to violent, constant and escalating abuse.

They plan to show that none of her abuse stories were true and that through hundreds of daily texts, emails and phone calls she convinced Lopez — a defendant whose perception of danger and how to respond to it has been uniquely shaped by his military combat experience — to get rid of the man he believed was torturing and planning to kill her.

Oak Cliff homeowner Emery Wilson took the stand today. While no neighbors witnessed the actual shooting, Wilson heard it — the gunshots and screaming — and was the only person bedsides Jennifer known to have seen the shooter.

[..]

Wilson jumped up and ran barefooted out his front door to help or at least find out what was happening, he said.

But he stopped cold when he saw, about 20 feet from where he stood, a man dressed in a dark navy hoodie and jeans, the bottom of his face covered by a blue surgical mask, gripping a gun at his side.

Wilson says their eyes met for a couple seconds. Then Wilson hurried back inside his house to grab and load his own gun.

[..]

The afternoon thus far has been spent discussing collected evidence with members of Dallas Police Department who worked the case.

We will continue to follow the Darrin Lopez trial and bring readers information as we learn more.

During neighbor Emory Wilson's testimony, the ring video of the Faith's leaving their home to walk the dog is played until they are out of camera range and the next exhibit is audio only of the gunshots and Jennifer screaming. I must say, one of the most difficult audio files I've ever heard-- knowing it was all an act where she knew when they walked out the front door together, only one of them would return home alive. Other than high-pitched screams, seems the only words Jennifer actually spoke to Wilson when he came to her aid was "Nobody came." Never once heard her yell out her husband's name or "Help Jamie."

The sociopath next door (i.e., Jennifer) is probably more dangerous than the random, drug-fueled attacker in hiding that one tends to fear and look out for.

I'm taken aback by how easily the subject could transform back and forth from a no-remorse event leader to a grieving victim-- except she was mimicking how she thought she should act and not raw emotions of her own given the situation.

Also, the idea that she potentially phoned the couple's mutual friends in AZ even before phoning the police is classic. She wanted assurance of her posse of flying monkeys by her side before investigators could notice her.

Learning from the witness that he believes Amber was inside the family home when her parents took their routine morning dog walk together, I'm curious if she will be called as a witness. We don't seem to have access to such records.

Listening (audio only) to Jennifer screaming, I can't help but think of CR from the recent, Hoover, AL, kidnapping hoax, and wondering about if her own 'acting' when she intentionally dropped or placed her phone on the ground (heard on the open line by her sister-in-law), was as dramatic as Jennifer, or did she temper her voice not to attract the attention of motorists driving by on the interstate.

Let me be first to say that I'm very fearful of women of this character, the sociopath next door. Like the victim, Jamie, the public will be mostly unprepared and defenseless when the subject chooses to strike! Poor Jamie-- he had no idea he was walking out his front door for the last time. JMO

TRIAL BLOG -- DAY 1

Now, a criminal jury will listen to testimony, see evidence and decide if Lopez is guilty of murder. Overall, the state will argue that Jennifer Faith and Lopez were long-lost lovers with violent fantasies, which resulted in the death of James. The defense will argue that Jennifer Faith manipulated Lopez, who suffers from a traumatic brain injury and PTSD, and convinced him to kill her husband.

DAY 1

After opening statements on Tuesday, the state began to call witnesses.

Jason Schneider, a friend of James, testified first. He called the victim "Jamie." He said his friend was an American Airlines IT director, who moved to Dallas for a career promotion.

Schneider described, “He’s just a great guy, funny, smart, very intelligent, genuine.” The victim was a Packers fan, a gamer, a traveler and a foodie. His friend said James loved to be with family.

On the morning of Oct. 9, 2020, Schneider said, “Jennifer called me that morning. […] She was hysterical.”

He believed her emotional act. He felt betrayed by Jennifer. “I had no idea she was capable of any of the things I found out,” said Schneider.

A neighbor, Emery Wilson, who lived five doors down from the Faiths, testified that he heard gunshots and screaming. He said he ran outside and saw the alleged shooter, Lopez, wearing a mask and hoodie while holding a gun. The following day, Wilson said Jennifer asked him to accompany her on her morning walks. While he was uneasy about walking after the incident, he said he did his neighborly duty and joined her.

Within two weeks, Wilson testified that he stopped the walks because he felt something wasn’t right. “I was having a lot of mixed feelings,” said Wilson. He said he told Jennifer that he saw the shooter, and her reaction was concerning. “I was quite surprised that she was not remorseful nor showed any form of sadness that I had seen the [shooter], but I couldn’t give any more details.”

Wilson, like Schneider, later discovered Jennifer Faith plotted the death of her husband. He said, “Disappointed that I pretty much wasted my time trying to help someone that was using me.” He continues, “I think more or less, she just used everybody.”

During Wilson’s testimony, surveillance video was shown of the Faiths leaving their house. Another camera captured the sound of multiple gunshots and loud screaming.

Several members of the Dallas Police Department also were called to testify, including homicide detective Chris Walton.

A piece of evidence that was brought up multiple times on Tuesday was the duct tape used to tie Jennifer Faith’s hands together during the shooting. It was staged to make it seem like a robbery, but detectives found it suspicious from the beginning. “The size of the duct tape,” said Walton. “How could this small piece of duct tape tie her down? That was my initial reaction.”

Text messages and other evidence led police to Jennifer Faith and Lopez. Some were shown in the courtroom on the first day of trial, and explained by cell phone experts. An FBI special agent and ATF special agent also took the stand, among other law enforcement officials.

Court has resumed for Day 2.

I recognize Jason Schneider seated in the front row. Jason was the first witness on Monday. He runs a dance school in AZ and met Jamie and Jennifer in AZ when they brought the daughter (Amber) to his dance school when she was about age 8.

Jennifer phoned Jason right after Jamie was ambushed on the street. He thinks she called him before she called the police. Jason and his wife flew to Dallas immediately after the call to support Jennifer after the tragedy.

First-morning break. Thus far, a firearms expert and the coroner have testified today.

The statements from the Federal Court Judge and Prosecutor during Jennifer's trial paint the defendant in a sympathetic light -- the polar opposite of the State Prosecutor here!

"Mrs. Faith, I'm not sure why you're crying." US District Judge Jane Boyle said before the gavel sounded. "What you did was a betrayal. Boyle sentenced Faith to life without parole for orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot by tricking a disabled veteran into gunning down her husband, Jamie Faith, outside their north Oak Cliff home in October 2020.

"You're pure evil," Boyle told her, "Not to mention disgusting."

[..]

"He thought he was the only person that could save you," Boyle told her. "You tricked him because you thought his brain wasn't working."

[..]

"There's just some people who have devious minds," the judge said.

[..]

Calvert [Asst US Attorney] said she used lies to "weaponize Darrin Lopez."

[..]

"It's simply an agony we'll live with for the rest of our lives," Snyder said. [Jamie's best friend Jason Snyder]. .."I miss my friend."

Remembering Jennifer was reading WEBSLEUTHS. She sent the defendant texts in December 2020 -- a couple of months after the murder.

Great find, @Seattle1, Evidently, Jennifer thinks we're stupid.

"Additional text messages recovered from Darrin Lopez’s cell phone relate to
online news articles and internet posts that discussed the James Faith murder
investigation. For example, on December 29, 2020 the following text exchange occurred between Jennifer Faith’s cell phone and Darrin Lopez’s cell phone:

11:18 PM – Jennifer Faith to Darrin Lopez: “Did you read through any of that stupid “Websleuths” thread I sent you”

11:18 PM --- Darrin Lopez to Jennifer Faith: “I should have never read it”

Your Affiant knows that “Websleuths” is an internet community that focuses on
unsolved crimes and missing persons. Registered users discuss information related to the cases and they try to solve them. The thread Jennifer Faith is referencing in the text is a forum that specifically posts about James Faith’s murder."

Doesn't matter why he did it. In law, it's what he did that that matters. (And that he knew it was a major crime, which he certainly did know).

He had other options, like telling her to get a lawyer and get a divorce, and he'd talk to her after that.

And just to add, this sob story is being told to try to get him off from any penalty or responsibility for deliberately extinguishing the life of someone who didn't pose any threat to him: excuses, excuses, excuses.

Just like Adam, blame the woman. She made me eat the apple, it's all her fault. Nonsense, he did it because he wanted to, it made him feel manly, and probably he was greedy for James's assets. So he should take responsibility for it.

Remembering Jennifer was reading WEBSLEUTHS. She sent the defendant texts in December 2020 -- a couple of months after the murder.
And, from reading the early posts, within a few days of the murder, posters had recognized the deception and were unanimously pointing at the wife as part of the plot. So her calling it 'stupid', is quite ironic. No Ms. Faith, WS was not stupid, you were...

Here's what hangs me up: Federal Judge & US Prosecutor saw all the evidence and they openly felt sympathy for Lopez! I also wonder if Jennifer relied on Lopez being career military with arms training and all that entails i.e., shoot the enemy, take down the enemy.

There's no doubt Ms. Evil preyed on him and those twisted emails of lies took it to another level. I think if his drive to Dallas had been longer, it may have donned on him, wtf am I doing? Traumatic brain injury delays cognitive processes.

I think the defense is just hoping that once medical evidence comes in, the mitigating circumstances will weigh heavily against a life sentence. Admittedly, I'm very biased against Lopez because of what I've read about the victim. I hold it against him that he was even friends with Jennifer! JMO

I had the same thoughts about her federal case - I just re-read what I could find on it. the way this trial is going seems disingenuous to me.

I think it is going to come down to the law and I haven't had the time to look it up.

Court is in recess until Thursday at 10 AM ( note the late start time).

Oh, and the prosecution putting in all their smutty emails was ridiculous.

I think it is going to come down to the law and I haven't had the time to look it up.

After two days, I have to say that I'm put off by the prosecutor's approach. I don't know if this is intentional or not but she talks so fast that I can hardly keep up with her. And I don't think the jurors have time to absorb who/what/when she's talking about!

I also think she's played with the order of some of the (smut) email communication. Maybe the prosecution is trying to diminish when the BDSM role-play communication was introduced and how Jennifer went full throttle with the sex games (to keep DL's interest) after the August phone call when she asked DL to murder Jamie.

From 'hello from an old friend' email to the assassination date on October 9, provided for eight months of grooming the sex-deprived, discharged soldier! I doubt the communication between the two would have continued if not for the sex gaming controlled by Jennifer. Reminds me of Suzzane M reaching out to the married HS lad. IMO, that communication also would not have continued if not for the hook-ups. He'd already ended the communication but SM got back on the horse and teased him until she wore him down!

For DL's sake, I hope the defense is taking notes and clarifying the eight-month timeline. Based on the objections from the prosecution, there must be an Order suppressing evidence about Jennifer's role in Jamie's murder.

At the end of the day, I think Jennifer had 15 years with Jamie who helped raise her daughter and put her through college. He had an estate plan to provide for them, and she didn't need him anymore. She depended on DL's warped feelings for her to pull the trigger and if caught, never implicate her -- doing it all for love. And seems to me DL forgot to grow up, living in the past -- even before his TBI. MOO
