So sorry if this has been discussed. Have you guys noticed this picture of the car? The deep straight gouges on the drivers side door do not look like they came from a tree to me. Something is wrong with this story.

How big is opening of orphan oil wells? Can an adult accidentally fall in?

I found this:

But looking around I think they can also be smaller in diameter—10” or so. Also, most things said they’re mostly a hazard for children and animals falling in.

How have they back-tracked that? I saw no evidence of that?

I would like to believe responsible oil company would have these wells fenced in. I can't imagine just leaving them open for 'anything' to just fall into. I live in a Gas & Oil Province and they are all fenced in. JMO

That is true. I didn’t think if that. Car wouldn’t have been drivable because of front tire alone. Even if the back trunk portion was removed after wreck.

I am wondering what happened around the time of Dec 10th last year. That is the day of this tweet and the same day (dec 10) of his last activity that is public on social media this year. This tweet from Dec 10, 2019 was posted at 3:45 am.

I keep thinking he fell into one of the uncapped wells as he wandered (stumbled?) about as opposed to being picked up by someone, yet they didn't call the police, or take to a hospital, is just hard for me to believe. For what reason would they do that? Not to rob someone stranded on the road as he had no wallet in which to steal.

Have they checked those more than just peered inside? I don't know what you use... radar or something like they did for the pond to distinguish shapes in the water.

It looks like there are at least three orphan wells off of Salt Flat Rd.

I guess sometimes these wells are repurposed by landowners: “The Railroad Commission will take action on any well to plug or repair it, when we have evidence the well is an abandoned oil or gas well,” said Ramona Nye, an agency spokeswoman. “If the well has been transferred over for use by a private landowner for irrigation or for a water supply well, the Railroad Commission no longer has jurisdiction or authority to plug the well.”

Sadly, I agree that there is a big possibility this is just what happened. He had a single car accident, was injured, stumbled off in the dark and either laid down under something to rest or fell in an uncapped well. IMO
...But I was trying to find a link that shared the measurements of one of these oil or gas wells. I was unable to find anything. I’m curious to how wide they are (can an adult fit) and their depth (can they be searched just by looking down them)?

Another idea about Waze:

Jason could have ended up on Salt Flat Road because he was avoiding police (not saying for nefarious reasons though he might have wanted to get home quickly) or an accident. Some of the major reasons the app is used is to see where speed traps are, see locations of red light cameras and see up to the minute detailed info about traffic. On the main screen there is an option menu where you can easily plop an icon. I am attaching a current picture of the view from (semi) near me. You can see that there is currently police presence at 24th and Lexington and there is heavy traffic on 24th and 2nd Ave with traffic moving at 6mph on 23rd and you can also see traffic cams and redlight camera icons. There arent any accidents near me but there is also an icon for that. if you click on it, it would give you details like how many cars and which lanes etc and what time the accident was reported. All of those details are entered by users. The little cute characters are other Waze users who are contributing to this data.

I am curious if there was a traffic jam or accident on the major road and if he was trying to avoid it. I'm not sure where to get that info.

Besides the small amout of blood that was found, I wonder if there was an imprint of the side of his face on the window. Put your face on a window you you'll leave a little sebum.

When I was searching for measurements of these wells, I came across several articles that discussed the issues with these orphaned wells not being attended to properly, etc.

Also, when the dad was contacted by the media about the drugs in the backpack, this is the first time he heard about it!! It seems crazy he would have to get this information from a news reporter!

Ah, ok, I’m glad you said that so I can clarify. I really meant that they backtracked on making the determination nothing was amiss but an abandoned car so early. I think they are backtracking on how they handled it early on. Wasted precious time, imho. I don’t think they think a crime happened yet- just how it was handled early. Obviously they said something along the lines of “typical abandoned car, maybe not wanting to report because of DUI, they come back for the vehicle later” and they were wrong.
Also, says to me either the car didn’t look the way it does now then or they didn’t look closely.
