Thank you @swedeheart for summarizing this for us! I haven’t had time to watch the interview yet. I am going to try to volunteer for the search. I’m so happy they’re doing it!
I feel bad for his family about all the drug speculation, but how could there not be with media reporting a backpack “filled with narcotics”? That was irresponsible. But the fact that some MJ was indeed found in his stuff, LE saying they’re having it tested for hallucinogens and the odd stripping of all his clothes and leaving behind his stuff in the road does make one at least consider that drugs could have played a part here. I think it’s a logical speculation. It may or may not be the case. But yeah, I think it’s a stretch to say he was into anything more than being a normal college kid who smokes weed.

Totally agree. It had to be discussed here, because I believe it could still be relevant. I really just wanted to publicly apologize to Mr. Landry if he reads here.

Very interesting. I said I get determined when a computer acts like it's smarter than I am so kept at this. Oddly Chrome (my default browser) is the one limiting me from viewing all the comments, yet Microsoft Edge isn't blocking me. Usually Chrome is my browser of choice.

Adding something else in the event others have had the same problem... Another thing I noticed is if I'm not getting the search results I want by Googling something... I try with Bing (which I normally can't stand). Oddly I got ZERO results Googling something the other day, so copied and pasted my search into Bing and Voila! Thousands of results! That one blew my mind. It was a pretty detailed search using Boolean search operators/modifiers but Google normally handles those kinds of searches just fine. Just a FYI if you ever run into a wall... just try another way.

I'm also using Chrome but I noticed more than a week ago that there's an update pending and I've purposely not downloaded it yet because it seems that a function currently working (like viewing FB comments without login) will cease after the update. Did you recently update Chrome?

Now I try to give it some time before updating so I can read about problems others are reporting since the update. The last Chrome update messed up Twitter for me!

Yes that’s where the front license plate goes. In Texas you have to have front and back plates. It must have gotten knocked off in crash.

Yes I just watched the YouTube interview with his dad. Photos show license plate was initially on the car...so that theory is out the window! I live in TX so know about the front plate just didn't look close enough at the previous pics to realize the plate was taken off for the auction listing.
What I took away from the interview is:
1. his dad said yes the tow truck most likely would've run over the clothes either on the way to or from towing the car! So why didn't the clothes show tire marks or dirt??
2. the tire tracks could have come from the tow truck per his dad! He has video of the scene but the interviewer never asked him to show the video. How disturbed was the grass from the car possibly sliding 180 degrees and hitting the trees and barb wire? Look at the front wheels they are turned slightly to the left possibly indicating a slide?!
3. which part of the car hit first? In the interview his dad said the front I believe but thought I read that it was the rear that hit first?
4. my observation of the tire track area...are there any footprints? I realize they could've been covered up by vehicle traffic but just curious about that.
5. his dad has video of the clothes in the road during the daylight but again the interviewers didn't ask to see that?!
6. noticed his dad used present tense when talking about Jason smoking weed...he "uses" marijuana.
7. the photo from his dad showing the car in the dark with headlights and taillights ON hmmm!?

We are all invested in this case, it's heartbreaking and I really hope answers come soon!!

I also recall that DPS investigators reported the vehicle impact with the tree was the boot/trunk first which I believe is consistent with the damage seen in the photos. There's no front impact damage to the car in the photos I've seen. MOO

Now I'm back to wondering about his state of mind in general. IMO

After reading the complete police statement it seems pretty clear that he left the car on foot and for some reason removed all of his clothes and left them in the road. He obviously may have had a head injury, or may have been under the influence. It was very cold that night and unlikely he made it unless he found shelter in a heated structure. It does not sound like a mystery so much as they haven't looked in the right place yet. Very tragic.

Well ain't that innerestin'??? (yes, I know ain't isn't proper and I purposely misspelled interesting. Didn't want anyone to think I'm a (total) idiot! LOL).

I do have an update(s?) pending for Chrome which I have not done yet. At least Edge is working for me so nice to have a workaround.

I believe SAR teams looking for JL have been very dependant on drone coverage which is great for covering a vast amount of acreage in a short time except that drones can't look under covered areas or in the shadows. I don't think JL is far from the crash area and hope he's recovered for his family very soon.

To me, it looks out of place by the tree line, tall grass in front, in the dark, lights on. I don't know if that was the final position the car was in after the wreck, or if Jason moved it to that exact position after the wreck before exiting the car. IMO

JL's dad tells NG that LE did not take photos of the vehicle at the crash scene and the photo made available was taken by the VFF that reported the wreck to LE and waited for DPS officer to arrive.

Personally, I believe there's probably video of the crash scene by the BWC just as they produced a still photo of the backpack and clothes on the road (from the body-worn camera).

Was the barbed wire tested?

Why would he take his clothes off in this temperature?

His dad repeats, "We need that one person to come forward." Make of that what you will. Imo.

Yeah I agree. The lights on screams that the person was not okay. Who would do that? You would at least turn off the lights if trying to dodge a DUI. Then finding the backpack with LAPTOP and WALLET in it in the middle of the road.. But then they probably thought he was just drunk and took off as fast as he could. Just something about the lights being on gives me chills though.

What direction were the lights pointing? If toward the road I might have consider leaving them on so that I could make my way back to the road if that were me. It was pitch black that night as has been discussed.

I don’t know about y’all, but from my point of view I don’t see how someone could not alone not see his car on the side of the road, and I don’t see how this looks like a normal abandoned car that the sheriffs said the see all the time. Something doesn’t quite look right IMO

It's absolutely heartwrenching to listen to dad KL start the media circuit seeking help to locate his son.

I only listened to NG but a couple of things stood out to me. First, KL has never done any local media sit down interviews or appeals (since the mischaracterization of the drugs) and went straight to YT with non-MSM blogger and next appeared on NG.

Dateline Missing Person in America picked up the story but I don't believe this is a broadcast show.

I also sensed that there might be tension between the family and CCSO/LE or at least a lack of communication.

KL was unable to answer questions posed to him by NG guests that I thought he'd already know the answers to from LE.

Part of me thinks that KL is not asking questions of LE that he doesn't want to hear the answers. It's self-preservation and I accept that. He's a dad that wants his boy rescued.

Exactly. The same concept was explained by CCSO when they took over the investigation from Texas DPS. Actually, they split the investigation with DPS investigating the auto accident and CCSO in charge of the missing person investigation.

Missing Texas State student Jason Landry’s abandoned car did not cause immediate concern; police work to overcome early investigative delays

Authorities in Texas did not immediately suspect something may have been terribly wrong when police were first notified of an abandoned, totaled car on Salt Flat Road in Luling last week. A county sheriff’s department is now playing catch-up as multiple investigative agencies are sharpening their focus on different aspects of the case.

Caldwell County Sheriff’s Sgt. William Miller told CrimeOnline that investigators were not immediately concerned about Landry’s safety just after the discovery of his vehicle, because of how frequently police receive reports of abandoned cars in the remote area of central Texas.

“That happens all the time,” Miller said. Much more often than not, the owner will reclaim the vehicle after a day or two, having left it to seek help for car trouble, or in some cases, because they got into a DUI crash and did not want to call police to the scene. Miller reiterated earlier police statements that there is no indication alcohol or drugs contributed to Landry’s wreck.

Late last week, Miller said, Texas DPS turned over the missing persons investigation to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s office, while DPS focuses on the crash investigation.

“There were certain things that weren’t done” in the first hours after the discovery of Landry’s abandoned car, Miller said. “We weren’t conducting a true missing persons investigation.”

This was a slim person *most likely* wearing only a t-shirt and shorts for a prolonged period of time in 35 degree weather with strong winds.

I personally would believe hypothermia/head injury before I leaped to weed laced with some other substance, that we have no evidence of him even smoking. That, to me, is a much bigger leap.

The crashed vehicle was believed to have rested with the driver's door pressed against the barbed wire fence.

It follows that JL could have been poked the fence at his hip and waist level, pushing the door open to get out of the vehicle.

From the photos, I'd describe the blood on the waistband and garment tag as blood smears from a poke, not a bleeding wound. It really appears as a negligible amount of blood. MOO
