I think he fell into an abandoned uncovered (possibly covered with rotted wood) water cistern and could not get out. He may have been injured during the fall or succumbed to toxic fumes. There are so many (possibly thousands) scattered across the state mostly in rural areas. An incident in 2023 in Bastrop County cost 3 people their lives when they tried to rescue a hunting dog that had fallen into a 4 foot wide abandoned cistern. LINKHis father said in a recent podcast that the joints found by police were tested and the joints weren't laced.

I suppose we can't rule out that he took ecstasy before driving 2.5 hours to his parents house for Christmas, but that seems unlikely IMO, but who knows....but in the same podcast his Dad said no drugs or evidence of drugs (besides weed) were found in his vehicle, his belongings or at his apartment in San Marcos. it's baffling..
Search dogs found very little. Searches with dogs began looking for him the next day and continuing. TXSAR and Texas Equasearch are extremely skilled at finding people and they NEVER found anything. Of course, we can't be 100% sure of their results, BUT the entire area is treacherous with sharp rocks, cactus, thorny bushes, barb wire fences and a naked person with no shoes would be expected to leave a blood trail that should be trackable in the cold dry weather.
I have 2 personal (MOO) theories:
1. Something involving another person like a car jacking happened at the intersection when stopped at the light. The person took control of the car and caused the wreck, and the subsequent disappearance. Maybe Jason attempted to help someone who appeared to be in need?
2. He had a head injury from the wreck that disoriented him. Perhaps he approached someone while seeking help, and was shot and killed. Maybe the person thought Jason was an intruder This is my primary theory.
I know it is POSSIBLE that he found a convenient hidey hole someplace in the landscape, where he succumbed to injuries, and remains hidden there to this day, but so may people have searched for years now--so this seems low odds to me.
I went to the same college (TX State) as Jason and my parents live in the Houston area, so I am quite familiar with this area and the roads.
What do you think happened??
