An Amber Alert issued are believed “to be in grave or immediate danger". The reason LE believe the girls to be in danger is due to her earlier meth-related arrest. Girls were found Jan. 22, 2023 & are safe. *Justin Lee Burns (34) “father” arrested & charged (1/21/23) & indicted (4/4/23) with 2 felony counts of kidnapping. Bond $50K. Failed to appear (5/26/23) bond forfeited & changed (5/26/23) to $100K & issued arrest of Burns. Rearrested 7/7/23. Bond forfeited (5/26/23).

4/28/23 Update: First appearance hearing was cancelled. Next announcement hearing on 5/26/23. 5/26/23 Update: Announcement hearing presiding by Judge Benjamin N. Smith. Bond Forfeitures Docket Entry. Defendant failed to appear or contact court. Defendant's name called 3 times at courtroom door. No answer. Bond forfeited. Judgment nisi against principal & sureties in the amount of $50K. Alias Capias to be issued for the arrest of the Defendant. New bond set at $100K.
7/7/23 Update: Re-arrested on 7/7/23. Bond $100K for each count ($200K). 7/28/23 Update: Cancel first appearance hearing. Next 2nd announcement hearing on 8/11/23 @ 9am.

I'm actually not at all surprised that he decided to go to trial. I'm not sure if this had been posted.

Father of McKinney AMBER Alert children feels he's being wrongfully accused of kidnapping

The two McKinney girls were found safe on Sunday. Their grandmother and father face kidnapping charges.

I just think if he made plans to kidnap his daughters wouldn't he arrange for his mother to kidnap all three of his children. Then to remain at the scene to text his girlfriend? It just leaves enough reasonable doubt. As for Jame she pleaded guilty because there was no denying she took off with grandkids. My guess was a rash last minute decision.
