I wonder if walking the dog was an excuse to get out of the house...
to see someone maybe?
"Bye mom! I'm taking the dog for a walk."
"Don't stay out too long."
"Ok, Mom. I'll be back soon".
And of course , she wasn't and that may be why her mom got anxious
so quickly.

Hi DeeDee,
I just don't know. Could be the friend "assumed" Katylynn did. As far I as I know we have been given very little hard evidence. The police aren't confirming anything as fact right? I'm just wondering, what if the dog was purposefully left there in a staged manner for ppl to assume Katylynn did it? So much of this case rubs me the wrong way.

Very true..... but, a predator that would discard his victim into the garbage would not likely not take the time/care to redress her. Although she could have had her clothes ripped but still on her body, I don't think she was SA. I very much hope she was not.

If Kaytlynn was found with obvious signs of injury like stab wounds or having been beaten to death, she'd fit the profile of a kid killed by another teen, IMO.
Maybe she was and LE is simply being cagey at the moment. But if COD is still really not known I have a hunch it's more a sex predator case where someone who is not a juvenile grabbed her either opportunistically or via luring her. >

I wonder if they had a hard time determining COD because she was in the TX heat for -probably (assuming dumpster was picked up on Tuesday AM)- 24 hours or so, likely had damage to her body from the trash truck... those trucks have compactors that smush the garbage down *shudder*... plus they had to process a scene in a garbage pile - I imagine that's a huge task! BPD has been super careful in their wording by stating no signs of trauma that we can report. IMO - That doesn't mean there was no sign of trauma, rather nothing that could be determined on appearance at the dump site...

I don't think we will get any final clarification as to manner of death...maybe not even cause.

My son.... sorry - just mentioning some changed behaviors in response to this event... my son's gf walked over to see him at our place regularly, now she isn't allowed to walk over anymore... she's 15 or 16...
OT - my daughter who always thinks the world is out to get her is not shaken in the least by this death because she "thinks it was other kids" so she's not worried about a predator on the loose... she has no inside info, just her 17 year old girl's dissection of the events...

Hello fellow Websleuths! I was vacay for a few days. I still think the cops know COD and I truly believe they're using the wait of toxicology to not have to go public with findings. I also think they have a clue who may be responsible but need more evidence. JMO. I'm still curious about her phone.

I don't know that I agree. There have a few cases where there was or it seems there is a bad guy on the loose but LE reassures us:
Three days after Jessica Ridgeway went missing – Westminster police insisted to the community they had no “reason to believe a person is going around abducting children.”
http://www.thedailybeast.com/jessica-ridgeway-is-dead-colorado-kidnapping-ends-in-tragedy
LE stated that the murder of Alanna Gallagher was “an isolated incident”.

“They say they don’t believe there’s any immediate danger to the community.” Abby and Libby murders.

BBM. I agree. I have a hunch this is very solveable.
Is it possible to distinguish trauma at the time of death versus trauma after death from the trash? Wouldn't the coloring be different, etc?
Does anyone know which apartment was visited? It could have been her apartment to like maybe collect her phone/computer looking for connections maybe?
I don't believe the community is safe either. I think LE is just buying time and minimally giving tidbits of info.
I think she was meeting with someone who then killed her. Maybe kids from school, maybe a guy, maybe in her inner circle, but bet her friends will know.

Within hours of death, blood starts to pool in the dependent tissues and you get what is called lividity... Blunt trauma or cuts after death will not "bruise/bleed/clot" like would happen when the blood is pumping through the body. I have no idea how that would be effected if the body was tumbled around in motion in the back of a compactor... I would think it would depend on the time of death versus time into the dumpster and then into the dump... gosh, this is when I wish I had taken more of a forensics route!

I'm starting to think the same thing -- just a feeling (but my feelings have been wrong before). I
do think that it's possible that her death was an accident due to excess force or something of that nature. (Example: Kids are playing and one pushes another, and the other loses his balance and falls, hitting his head and dying.) It is probable, however, that in this case the one who "pushed," or hit, etc. may not have been a kid. And then panic ensues, thus the dumpster, ending up at the landfill. Dunno. Maybe we'll get a detail or two more (from where??) that puts my feeling in the "wrong" category.
ETA: LE may have good evidence, but maybe not good enuff yet.
