How did no one in that building hear the screams from these repeated beatings? That's a question I have.
My guess is, that they suffered in silence and screams or crying would only trigger the abuser to more beatings..
We do not know the details, during the beatings, abuse.

Seems like GW and BC are playing dumb and remain silence, atm.

The poor kid could've died from that infection if he didn't receive treatment when he did. Mouth infections are always serious.

Those children were mistreated to a degree that seems horrific! May God heal them and bring them justice.

Would they have benefited from the Covid stimulus package as they no doubt would have been low income earners? It was costing them peanuts, or should I say snacks like noodles, chips and soft drinks, to feed the three surviving boys.

Most likely.

In most places, families could still visit food pantries on a drive-up basis, many school districts arranged food drop-offs/pick ups within the usual school lunch program, SNAP benefit (food stamp ) amounts increased...yet these boys were found malnourished.

Why isn't a DNA test required to prove paternity when the alleged father is incarcerated?

I'm not in the US and not a lawyer, but it seems that the father would have provided a DNA sample re the felony, but whether or not that can be used to prove paternity may be something quite different.

Under HB 1399, law enforcement is not required to wait for a conviction to gather a DNA sample. Upon a person's arrest for a qualifying felony, a cheek swab is collected and sent to the DPS lab to be entered into CODIS. The statute was passed during the 86th Texas Legislative Session and signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Court officials said there were multiple delays as they tried finding a court appointed attorney represent Gloria Williams, 35, in the case.

I can't say I'm surprised they're having problems finding an attorney. Kirk Nurmi was the most hated attorney in Arizona when he defended Jodi Arias.

I don't know how cases are allocated to public defenders, i.e. are they given to the next available attorney, and are they able to decline it? I think if it were me, I'd promptly arrange a long-awaited holiday overseas rather than act for GW.

In the US, civil court and criminal court are two very distinct entities. As paternity is a civil court issue, the criminal statute doesn't apply.

There are also privacy issues, as one can see.

Yes, I figured that and why I said "... but whether or not that can be used to prove paternity may be something quite different". Our courts also have the same two entities.

This story is shocking. I really hope these two get what they deserve and the kids have a good life. It's awful what some human beings are capable of.

bond
Does anyone know what the bond needed to be increased? For her, there' no difference between $900K and $1M.

Gloria Williams, 35, appeared in a Houston court for a hearing in which her bond on aggravated assault to a child was raised to $1 million. Along with the other charges she faces, her bonds now total just over $1.5 million.

HOUSTON — The woman accused of abandoning three of her children in an apartment with the remains of their brother went before a judge Friday morning to have her bond changed.

Before the appearance, Gloria Williams’ bond had been set at $900,000. But Friday, Judge Kelli Johnson decided Williams’ bond for the felony charge of injury to a child by omission was insufficient. Bond for that charge was set at $350,000, but the judge raised it to $1 million.

Williams’ bonds now total $1,550,000 for all three charges.

I’m finding it very difficult to read the news. Just when I think it can’t possibly get worse, it does.

I had the dreaded paywall too but found this:

During Friday's hearing, prosecutors said Williams was receiving government aid for two kids, including Kendrick, who had learning disabilities.

She was also receiving additional assistance for the older daughter. In total, Williams was getting about $2,000 a month in assistance for her children.

So she was receiving money under false pretences. Not only for Kendrick who was deceased but for the daughter she kicked out. I wonder how long she would have claimed this money if all this hasn't gone down. I am sickened that the boyfriend was living it up with steak dinners wine and bling probably paid for with this money. MOO
