Hi -

My heart sank when I heard this story yesterday :( While all kidnapped cases make me sad of course, this one really affected me b/c I used to be a CPS caseworker in Lbk....

I remember thinking many, many times how easy it would be for somene to kidnap a kid by just pretending to be a CPS caseworker. I have kids now and I would never even open the door to a CPS caseworker. This could also easily happen at a school or daycare center, as CPS caseworkers visit there as well, and the staff will believe whatevver they say. (Unless there's been some changes) When I was first hired, I had to pick up a baby at a daycare center for visit. I went there, I don't' think they even asked for my badge and got the baby. The staff had never met me. Even if they asked for my badge someone can easily make a fake one.

Back to the story :( I really hope she is found soon.

My theory.

I do not believe at this time she was trying to sell the baby.

Reasons why I think this:

1. CPS gets lots of false and malicious reports. All the news is saying is that she is being investigated for "trying to sell the baby". Any random person can call CPS and make up a report, perhaps an ex, jealous family member, neighbor who hears voices and has delusions, whoever. There is a chance there this is a malicous report.

2. If she truly was trying to sell her baby, why on earth would she stilll be in Lubbock, and at her own mothers house?

3. She would have deleted her facebook accounts if she was, to hide from CPS and the media.

4. If she truly wanted to sell her baby, she would have done this long before she reached the age of 2.

5. While I"m sure she has some serious parenting issues and the child was remved for vallid reasons, looking at her Facebook profiles show her as a mom who loves her baby. She also has a post that says "Jesus in Lord".

6. She gave her baby a godmother (she was on the news last night). Someone who gives their baby a godmother is not the type to try to sell her baby.

My theories:

1. She missed her baby so much and wanted her little girl home so she and an accomplice came up with this plan t get her baby back. Howeer, that theory does seem strange that she is still in Lubbock. It would make more sense for her to go to Florida or California or wherever.

2. The family that was caring for her killed her and made up this story of the fake CPS caseworker. I hope thats not true.

3. A pedophile who goes by Miguel and runs an online pedophile website found this opportunity to kidnap a little girl easily. Hope that ones not true as well. Perhaps he even made the false report about her trying to sell her baby.

Again, I'm sure this mother has some serious parenting issues, and needs help, and CPS probaby should have been involved.............................. but I do believe she loves her little girl and was not trying to sell her.

A good quote comes up at times like this "there is no smoke without fire". CPS had taken the child for a reason and for whatever reason she lost custody.

I have a feeling the selling story has a little truth to it. I believe that she tried to sell the child maybe because she knew that she was being taken away.

It sounds like the know who this "miguel" is, and it was planned. Its so sad and tragic especially for that baby. lets hope the truth comes out soon.

Hi - no, I do believe that CPS removed her for valid reasons. Perhaps neglect, drug abuse, etc. And the accusations that she was trying to sell her baby came later.

Sorry my post doesn't make much sense :(

I hope she is found ASAP.

Yes the pedophile ring theory is bizarre, maybe I've been watching too many episodes of Law and Order.

HOwever, someone could easily find out the details of the CPS case, that she was living there... I knw it is farfetched, but... I don't know a male nurse at her pediatricians clinic could be a pedophile (its possible, I've watched Oprah), learned that she was in temporary care, found out where she lived (in the doctors records) then found some random guy named Miguel off one of the pedpohile message boards (again, I've watched Oprah) to pose as the caseworker. Hopefully this all is not true.

I hope she is safe and healthy and has not been abused in these past few days.

All these things you state at the end are a possibility but I think at first the majority of the time would be looking at what is most likely. That this was the mother trying to get the child from the family friend.

Looking at it from the view of the child where is the child better off? With a mother that is willing to sell her? As a ward of the state? With a family in mexico who may not be able to adopt for whatever reason.

I think I understand what your point was. But you have to consider this : Who wants to buy a baby ? If you're a great couple and have a great home, why not go through the adoption process and not ' buy' a baby ? Already you're doing something criminal . And I think children being sold are much more likely being sold into sex types of trade than going to loving homes :( MOO

Mexico is a pretty corrupt place. It's entirely possible that the whole adoption system is also corrupt. Maybe this family didn't have the connections or money to adopt and can't conceive themselves. I think it's more likely that a 2 year old sold is to a family that can't have/adopt themselves as opposed to going to the sex trade.

I do find it a little odd that the family members caring for her have not spoken to the media.

There is not even a Facebook page set up for her to help get the word out.

How do we get this story to make national headlines? (Like Good MOrning America shows like that)

Sahm629- There isn't much information now and I think LE believes that they know who/which group of friends to be looking into.

It's very unlikely this is random.

I didn't say it wasn't bad. I was asking if this mother was so bad that she wanted to sell her baby then is it a possibility that the child will/would have a better life with a family that wants them than with that type of person.

I don't trust a mother that is willing to sell her child to screen the buyers and pick an appropriate one. That poor lil girl could have went from a home where she was neglected to one where she is suffering unimaginable horrors.

wow... new to this case. this is such a precious little girl!

the "mom" seems to be a bit... what's a nice word... "immature". do we know how old she is? i might have read it upthread, but i'm just so amazed by this whole thing that my brain is going too many directions. 4, or 5 different facebook accounts... all of which mention something about a "Michael" (or Miguel in spanish as someone mentioned)... this alone makes me believe that mom is behind this princess being missing. add in all of the other circumstances and it just about seals the deal for me. i just hope and pray that this little girl is safe and that LE is able to put enough pressure to crack the case. i can't imagine it would take much tho...

That is entirely possible, I'm just holding out hope. Besides people that do that, wouldn't they just kidnap the child themselves rather than pay someone for a kid?

Going by a birthdate she provided on at least one of her FB accounts, she is 22.

Sad situation and I hope that the child can be found.

I'm honestly not sure what to even say here. Babies are not pets. You can not breed them in the backyard and sell them off like a pedigreed dog. It is illegal. It is illegal for a reason. There is no justification for a woman that would do it.

I am really concerned now that i read that fb post.. selling the baby must be more than rumor for even a relative to speak up and say she was afraid mom was involved.Poor baby i hope she is safe and not being harmed..IMO

very interesting comment. Makes me feel like we are not too far off in suspecting this whole phony CPS worker thing was a scam cooked up by mom and a friend to disappear Leah before CPS could remove her from mom's care if even family suspects the same.

I pray they find this child, sadly, I think it may be too late. If she was destined for sale in Mexico, I fear she is already across the border. :(
