Gotcha. :)

Yes I was thinking about that too. How do they normally do it? Call the family? Go over in person to bring the bad news? I would think they would go there in person after it was determined that it was indeed Leanne, no? But he might have heard it already sooner through neighborhood grapevine and ran over there. If he did they stopped him way outside of the yellow tape since he is in none of the photos where they retrieve her body. Or maybe his parents stopped him from going there.

I am sure they go there in person, but at some point someone has to identify the body visually. Oh gosh this is so sad. jmo

This is such a beautiful song! I also had it in mind but I was thinking of the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole - another wonderful person gone too soon!

I started out looking for Izzy's version, which I love. But then I ran across Eva Cassidy's and it sounded to me sort of like Leanne singing it.

Too many amazing people gone too soon.

Not sure why,but The Beatles song, In My Life, is what is going through my head now.

Really? I bet she wasn't recognizable anymore. If it has to be done I think they would use her dental records.

Leanne and Josh look like maybe they like the Grateful Dead. This is a very touching song. I'm a dead head and turn to music in these times, like all of you.

GRATEFUL DEAD LYRICS
"Brokedown Palace"

Fare you well my honey
Fare you well my only true one
All the birds that were singing
Have flown except you alone

Goin to leave this Broke-down Palace
On my hands and my knees I will roll roll roll
Make myself a bed by the waterside
In my time - in my time - I will roll roll roll

In a bed, in a bed
by the waterside I will lay my head
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

River gonna take me
Sing me sweet and sleepy
Sing me sweet and sleepy
all the way back back home
It's a far gone lullaby
sung many years ago
Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come
since I first left home

Goin home, goin home
by the waterside I will rest my bones
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

Goin to plant a weeping willow
On the banks green edge it will grow grow grow
Sing a lullaby beside the water
Lovers come and go - the river roll roll roll

Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

For Leanne....

Was Leanne a 'tree climber'? I know they did a lot of hiking but now I wonder if they also enjoyed tree climbing when traveling and exploring.

The wild bamboo in Texas looks like this picture. Grows tall and is very thin but makes a dense growth and has some leaves. Some people grow it as a privacy hedge. It could obscure the field of view so that you could not see through it to see a person hanging from the limb of a tree. Most of the native trees in this area are mesquite trees which are more of a shrub, and oak trees.

There's an article I read last night that made me concerned about there being a thorough investigation. It's called "The Seven Major Mistakes in Suicide Investigation" by a homicide and forensic consultant named Vernon Geberth. I didn't post it because there are a few slightly graphic pictures of a staged hanging.

The author claims that LE first responders sometimes make assumptions and miss important clues because they are expecting a suicide based on the initial report. He says that a homicide detective should be called to the scene immediately.

I honestly think that GR LE was privy to info all these weeks that led them to expect this outcome. But I expect that they still did a thorough investigation at the scene anyway. This is a high profile case so LE needs to make sure it has its ducks lined up in a row.

I got this quote from the article. Very interesting!

Mistake#4 Failure to Conduct Victimology
One of the most significant factors to consider in any death investigation is victimology. Victimology as it pertains to both suicide and homicide investigations is significant in ascertaining motives, suspects and risk factors. In suicide cases, this becomes paramount in determining Motive and Intent. Does the victim fit a “Suicide Profile?” Was there any evidence of marked depression or suicide ideations? Did the victim have both short and long term plans?

Victimology is the collection and assessment of all significant information as it relates to the victim and his or her lifestyle. Personality, employment, education, friends, habits, hobbies, marital status, relationships, dating history, sexuality, reputation, criminal record, history of alcohol or drugs, physical condition and neighborhood of residence are all pieces of the mosaic that comprise victimology. The bottom line is “Who was the victim and what was going on in his or her life at the time of the event.” The best sources of information will be friends, family, associates and neighbors and that will be the initial focus of the investigation.

With the music popping up on-thread, a look at the travel blog:
The next day was the music festival day…the whole reason we happened upon Cavelossim Beach. We made the 5 km walk down the beach to where the concert would take place.

Once we discovered the venue we noticed something was missing. The band we came to see wasn't on the schedule!? This was very disappointing since we were looking forward to seeing them for quite some time. After we shook off the hurt and anger we were forced to tell ourselves once again, "It's about what you're doing not what you're not doing." Blah! It still hurts but the positive side is that we got to see three of the biggest Indie Rock bands in India.

I just got flooded with sadness for Leanne and her family. This has to be so incredibly hard for them.

I just wish she would have mentioned it to someone, anyone!

I hate depression. It robs us of so much. I'm so heartbroken for all of them.

Life is really unfair sometimes.

It appears that the Our Friend Leanne Hecht Bearden FB site has been taken down. I shouldn't be surprised but I am a little since it was so quick.

I think the internet trolls crawled out from under their rocks and it probably just got too painful and time-consuming to moderate. JMO

Me too! (feeling flooded) I have been listening to music (some linked here, some others) for the past few hours and went through all kinds of emotions. When I was feeling particularly lonely and sad I started to dance and that made me feel better. (Now I'm sitting here sweating and panting lol!)
