I truly hate to even suggest this, but I do think this is something that needs to be considered, so ...:
If Lee was hit by a car while on the side of the road, how far could he have been thrown?
His missing poster says, "His silver Ford Fusion was found abandoned near Loop 1604 and Schuwirth Road in Bexar County, TX," so I looked at the area on Google Earth (link below), and while it looks pretty flat overall, I do see some trees. Could he be stuck in one of them? Or are there any structures nearby along the road, on top of which he could have ended up? Not a likely scenario, but after reading a few articles on people being hit by a vehicle traveling at a high speed and what could happen afterwards (links below; some pretty disturbing), I thought I would bring it up, just in case ...:

ETA: This may also explain the lack of blood on the scene.
I realize it's not pleasant to discuss, but I also looked at the area via Google Earth and noticed the same thing. The scenario you mention is not impossible and searchers generally don't have the instinct to look up, especially into trees, but in this case they should! I'm also really hoping helicopters are being utilized in the search!
