Boyfriend arrested in child's death: I loved Lily
Charles Phifer says 4-year-old Leiliana Wright was his little buddy and he would have never hurt her.

“I loved Lilly like she was my own,” says Phifer. “I miss her every day. I still can’t quite believe that this has happened.”

Phifer 34, spoke to News 8 Monday from the Dallas County Jail against the advice of his attorney. He says he did so because he wanted to tell his side of what happened the day Leiliana died last month in a case that has galvanized renewed attention on the failings of the Child Protective Services system.

I intend to follow this case to some conclusion that brings justice for Leiliana and her grandparents. She has grabbed my heart even more than most. The extent of her abuse is so far beyond my comprehension of how parents can be so cruel.

:bump: this thread up -

Here's what I found - on June 24, 2016 (link: http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Gr...-of-4-Year-Old-Leiliana-Wright-384319831.html )

Grand Jury Indicts Mother, Her Boyfriend in Death of 4-Year-Old Leiliana Wright

The indictment was returned Monday; a trial date has not yet been set.

Can't find anything after June of 2016! Maybe someone else will have better luck in finding out what is happening with this! So, TIA!

Fly with the Angels sweet little Leiliana :rose:

Secret audio recording sheds new light on Leiliana Wright child abuse case

"Published on Feb 28, 2017
Investigative report: What did Tarrant County 233rd District Court know before Leiliana Rose was murdered by her mother? Associate judge calls private citizen at home to discuss. The citizen secretly (and legally) recorded the phone call."

this always seems to happen. jhessye Shockley, aaliyah Lunsford... there are others... raised by loving extended family then returned to a mother who didn't bond w them from birth.

The grandparents (parents of bio dad) had reported signs of abuse previously, and were denied many visits by the mother. They tried hard to protect her.... the system failed again.

The story that accompanies this petition is very sad:

I think the kid might have been soto's. bad reporting somewhere....

There was also an 18 month old boy, whose father was the boyfriend arrested for Leiliana's death.

On the morning of the girlÂ’s death, Quezada was at the home of her boyfriend, Charles Phifer. The couple went into the bathroom to shoot up heroin, leaving Wright with the coupleÂ’s 18-month-old son in the living room.

upon review of her old fb upthread, at least three by an ex in Illinois

I don't know how many other children this woman had, but apparently other children were removed from her by a judge's order. Poor little girl was born when mother was in prison. Yet when this woman got out of prison, judge in TX just gave her custody, no problems. The mind boggles.

"In 2008, Quezada was arrested for driving with alcohol and was later arrested again on a drug charge. Two years later, an Illinois judge took away her children. She also arrested for felony burglary in 2010."

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Gr...-in-4-Year-Old-Daughters-Death-435426123.html

"The mother of 4-year-old Leiliana Wright pleaded guilty Wednesday for the role she played in her daughter's death.

Grand Prairie Police said Jeri Quezada and her ex-boyfriend, Charles Phifer, beat Wright with a belt and a bamboo stick, then tied her up and threw her against a wall March 12, 2016, because she reportedly drank her brother's juice.

Wright later died at the hospital.

Police said Quezada and Phifer were high on heroin that day. Both were arrested and indicted in connection to Wright's death."

Thank you for the update, JanetElaine. It had been a long time coming, but hopefully this will ease some of the pain for the grandparents.

from the article posted on #72

Quezada pleaded guilty to one count of injury to a child as a part of plea bargain with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. She'll be sentenced to 50 years in prison in exchange for her testimony and cooperation during Phifer's upcoming trial. Had she gone to trial, she faced up to life in prison.
[.....]
Quezada will be sentenced once Phifer's trial has concluded. He is due back in court in September.

I was hoping for a "date" in September....

Guess I'll just have to wait.

50 years in prison - now that's what Bella's "mother" should have gotten....

So totally horribly sad. Makes me just wanna sit here and cry my eyeballs out. So tired of all of these services failing our nation's children miserably.
