Status hearing on 6/15 to set trial date, which was delayed; none was set. Status hearing today re awaiting DNA results.

Boyfriend's trial has started today

Man on trial for 4-year-old Grand Prairie girl's beating death

The trial began Wednesday for a North Texas man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s daughter to death two years ago.

Leiliana was tied in a closet, beaten with a belt and bamboo stick and thrown against a wall. An autopsy also revealed she had been sexually abused, court documents state. At the time, Phifer and her mother were allegedly high on heroin.

[her mother, Jeri Quezada, pled guilty and was sentenced 50 years. She agreed to give truthful testimony in this trial for the boyfriend.

Several jurors put their heads in their hands and cried while Quezada described what she saw Phifer do to her daughter on March 12, 2016.

An operator tried to walk him [Phifer] through performing CPR, but Phifer kept talking and didn't sound as if he was trying to help the girl.

Andrew Grondin, a Grand Prairie firefighter who tried to save Leiliana, choked back tears on the witness stand while recalling the night he and other paramedics found the girl.

If convicted, Phifer will receive an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Day 2 #CharlesPhiferTrial, mom of Leiliana Wright says she cannot remember much of what she told detectives after the death of her 4-year-old, including if she said she hit Leiliana in the chest hours before her death, because she lied about drinking her toddler brother’s juice.

Leiliana's paternal grandparents provided CPS with a photo of the girl’s bruised eye and busted lip in November 2014. One month before Leiliana’s death, a special investigator recommended she be examined by a medical professional for alleged sexual abuse, but nothing was done.

Leiliana had people who loved her. They wanted Leiliana.. Why on earth did her mother keep her from them?

Things could have been so different if CPS never let her mother have custody.
Leiliana would still be here, happy, loved & safe with her grandparents.

This case reminds me of Teghan Skiba. There were also people who loved and wanted her, but her mother chose to keep her from them and in the end that decision cost Teghan her life

They need to change the Law,Bio Mums get custody "only" if she's better parent,in this case she definitely was not...poor child should have been left with her Paternal Grandparents x
