Neither Linda nor Gary Lightfoot has a cellphone or any other traceable instrument. Carson COSO believes the couple’s disappearance poses a credible threat to their health and safety, as Gary Lightfoot is oxygen dependent.

According to the Carson County Sheriff’s Office, Linda Eppers Lightfoot, described as 5 feet 3 inches tall with gray hair and brown eyes, and Charles “Gary” Lightfoot, 5 feet 9 inches tall with gray hair and brown eyes, have not returned to their residence in Lubbock and have no cellphones or traceable devices.

Family says the couple left Panhandle around 3 p.m. Their tags were seen in Groom around 7 p.m. and again in San Jon, N.M., around 9:30 p.m.

It’s only a 2 1/2 hour drive home from Panhandle. Both destinations noted in the article are not on the way home and are actually in opposite directions of each other.

With that level of mileage they certainly would have needed to get gas at some point. Those country roads out in rural Texas can be confusing on a good day. There are stretches where you won't see anyone for miles and miles. I hope they are found soon.

A 2024 Camry with a full tank of gas can go over 500 miles on the highway. Over 600 if it’s a 4 cylinder.
That last article mentions a sighting in Santa Rosa the next day. So heading west from Panhandle.
Does a newer Camry not have any GPS or navigation on it?
I can’t imagine they are carrying enough oxygen to hold Gary over this length of time.

My partner is in vehicle telematics and said a 2024 Camry would have the ability to do GPS tracking, but the customer would need to opt into the service. The actual units in cars are usually sold to the dealership by a third-party vendor that manages the telematic app. If the Lightfoots didn't activate that service there is no way to track them via that method. However, new cars are basically computers, so Toyota may have the ability to assist law enforcement.

Thanks, that’s what I thought.

I’ve actually come across Facebook posts that indicate they were able to ping the car once. I’m watching for a MSM link that states Tahiti, and some other information.

Im local to this and this most likely will not have a positive ending. There are so many FM roads that they could be stranded on. The news is reporting that they have not been able to ping anything as they have nothing pingable in their vehicle.

Nothing yet, not looking promising.

According to Chief Sace Hardman, the initial report came on Friday after family members alerted the Panhandle Police Department that the Lightfoots never arrived home to Lubbock. Hardman said that the family advised police that they left the town around 3 p.m. Thursday following Thanksgiving celebrations. He continued that the police and other authorities were able to locate the couple’s vehicle somewhere near Santa Rosa or San Jon, N.M. but were unable to find it after that sighting. Hardman closed by stating that New Mexico State Police, the Texas Rangers, Panhandle PD and Carson Co. SO are all closely coordinating and will not give up until they are found.

Ugh.

Praying they are found soon.

I'm not familiar with Texas; is this area mostly desert, with some hills?

Also, what was the weather like when they went missing?

ETA: I removed my map; @paris_paris has a better one.

Their drive home would only be 151 miles, about 2 to 2.5 hours. If they left at 3 pm, they should have been very close to home by dark. Likely would have not had to fill up or stop at a gas station.

Very bothersome to see their vehicle sighted completely in the opposite direction. I hope LE has good confirmation on the vehicle sightings.

I wonder if she would be able to drive if he was unable to do so. So much could go wrong, and without a cell phone to even call 911.
