I'm from NC also and thought I recognized the younger pics of her also,a nd keep coming back to those because they are nagging at me the most. I was born in The late 70s near
Charlotte, so I am doubtful our paths would have crossed. BUT, an NC accent would not raise too many eyebrows in TX, either.

Hi Linda! Welcome!

Just simply thinking that you are from North Carolina, any way you could be thinking of Cynthia Lorraine Perry born in 1968 missing from North Carolina details in the following links http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...y_cynthia.html
https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/show/8281

:welcome4:
ClaireNC, I don't think so..she was heavy into drugs, right? Was not my thing, so I would not have come across her most likely...

So has the detective mentioned WHY she was issued a SECOND SS number? I am really curious. There has to be a paper trail for that. As I mentioned, there are some reasons why you could ask for a NEW one if you have one already, one being domestic abuse (to hide) and another I know of is after identity theft.

First time poster here. Hi to all! I found the Seattle Times story, read through all the comment that were there at the time, then read all 66 comment pages here. You folks are GOOD.

When looking through the sheet with all of the scribbles on it, I was impressed/surprised by all of the LA area numbers. I can't help feeling she has some kind of connection there. The stuff you folks have dug up about that sheet (especially on the CNA info)...

I wonder if anyone tried doing anything with the shredded papers discovered after her death--or were they long gone by the time the investigators knew they needed them? Probably the latter.

A mystery wrapped in an enigma, for sure. I look forward to reading more of the threads, and, I hope, helping in some small way.

Welcome and a big thank you to YOU for reading through everything. :)

We have no info so far as to what was shredded. BUT I believe the bags were discovered around the same time the family went to her home and found the box, so perhaps those were saved? Maybe? Hopefully?

I found an obit for a woman in Longview TX (via Legacy) who died Dec. 24th. No parents/maiden name etc. Born 1969. Had lived in Scottsdale, AZ. In Texas 1987. Don't want to put the name in case it is not her but this might give us some dates/places to work with.

HTH

ETA: Also - couldn't find any pics to match up...

I saw an obit for this person and it sounds like the one you're describing but I don't remember it saying she was in Texas in 1987. She got the Idaho ID in 1988 so she couldn't have been, I don't think. I think she went to Texas later.

I follow this case from the beginning, it is very interesting.
IMO it's so, that no one can change his name for fun.
If you go to the Office to request this, you must have good reasons to change the name. These should be listed somewhere on the application.
One other possibility is, that modification of the identity was supportet from official side. The options could be to be a Crown witness, or a victim of crimes. The second would possibly explain the medication. Great stress and anxiety can cause behaviorproblems, like obsessive-compulsive disorders.
The possibility of changing the identity was conducted from officialside could justify that her previous life data have been deleted

This investigation caught my eye via twitter a few days ago. I saw her picture and I swear I know her somehow. I have lived all over the country ( I was in the military) but the younger pic with the ponytail is the one that looks the most familiar to me. I immediately thought, that is the basketball girl..but I don't know in what context. I am from North Carolina, did military time in Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington state, and lived in San Diego, and now Mississippi. So...not too much of a stretch. My husband grew up in Van Alstyne, Tx, which is pretty close to all the recent stuff, and I may have seen here there...who knows. I am looking in my old yearbooks tomorrow, haha...anyway..

I noticed the question of 402 months...402 is a prefix for some north Hollywood phone numbers. Maybe it is 402.( part of phone number)....months. Like an incomplete thought? She seems kinda disjointed all over the page anyway.

Also, FYI if it was not known already, you can get a NEW social security number if you are a victim of domestic abuse and have POLICE RECORDS to prove the abuse. Maybe that is what is referenced by her writing "records" by the Hollywood police dept.

There is another way:
I wanted to add that mine was "lost" at some point in my childhood.
My sister and I ended up with sequential SSN even though there is a six year age difference.

I don't know what hoops they had to jump through to get me a new one, though.

Whoa, this is way back and may have been our first lead Into who the Jane doe was that we were looking at. We weren't even supposed to mention any names back then, at all. The new article sort of took the lid off the can o worms!
She must have told them she moved to Dallas in 87.

Found a student with her likeness from Nevada yearbooks for 1987 and 1988. The photo on the far right is a '87 sophomore photo, and the middle is the '88 junior photo of the same girl. I cannot locate an '89 class yearbook to see this student's senior photo.

On an uncanny and unrelated note, in both yearbooks, I recognized a former co-worker friend in both yearbooks. Wasn't sure if it was her, and after further research, by golly, it is my friend. And I never knew she went to this school and had lived in Nevada. Lol.

That's her!!!

Was a name given for the person in the yearbook photos? 'Wonder if Kodiak did additional research to obtain her current location??

I know someone said the one number is/was connected with Mellon, but I also found this http://www.milesgershlaw.com/attorney-profile/ for that number, just not sure how long they have had it. It is an atty specializing in ponzi schemes, stockbroker fraud, etc.

If perusing the angle that she may have needed citizenship with no questions asked, consider that she may be a later daughter of this woman, missing for unknown reasons:

Yeah, that's the correct obituary. I didn't notice the 1987 date on it before. Even MORE curious, huh? She supposedly was living in California and requested the birth certificate in 1988 and then somehow ended up in Idaho a couple months later getting an ID that year. She probably told the Ruffs she has been in Texas since 1987 but wasn't really.

That woman definitely looks like she could be related. Thank you for posting this.

I understand that. I think it may also help pinpoint where in the US she went to school. Different places have different styles of cursive/running writing. That Nevada photo posted earlier is an eerie likeness but im not sure its her. I'm leaning more now towards california. I was going to start with San Diego but then i got sidetracked and started looking around bakersfield high schools. I am a bit of a goldfish lol :-)

If you know where I can look through yearbooks without being a member, I'm happy to help with the search.

Wouldn't that make her younger than she claimed, though? Everyone who knew her seems pretty convinced she was older.

I don't think that's her. That girl in the yearbook looks like every girl I went to HS with (I graduated in 1988).

Do we know when she had her nose job? (Apologies if it was mentioned already)

AGREE! In fact the yearbook pics look exactly like a friend of mine from my high school (same time period). I don't think that is LEK.

I wonder if any of the investigators have been able to get a copy of the court records for her request for the name change to LEK and what the reason was for it. Having said that, I'm not sure how legitimate a reason you actually need in order to have your legal name changed. A close relative of mine changed her first name while in divorce court taking back her maiden name, just because she wanted to. Nobody in the family has any idea why, and she has kept on with her normal life and everything, just with a different and somewhat bizarre first name. She does suffer with mental issues and in the past also had substance abuse problems, so maybe she felt it gave her kind of a fresh start, even though everything else in her life stayed exactly the same. Obviously LEK was attempting to hide her real identity, but she may not have had to provide much reason for wanting the change of name.

The NPR piece mentioned that they have a discussion area set up on Reddit. Does anybody have a link to it? I have never used Reddit and can't seem to find it.
