I sure hope her daughter can find some positive answers when she is identified. Some negative speculation online she's is sure to one day see.
I think if it was, there would be NO announcement.. They would request it be buried and quietly.. I am hoping we are pleasantly surprised

I'm sure, and sincerely hope we are surprised that she ran away and just didn't want to go back. That there wasn't really anything specific that anyone knows of. But I also don't know that they would let it go at this point, since there are so many of us who are invested in this.
I can't help but wonder if what we will hear is simply she has been positively identified and that's it, or if it will be her real name and possibly a small explanation? Guess that will probably be the tell, tell sign for me.
Others can perhaps add on to this, but I have followed the different discussions pretty compulsively for a year, and there is definitely no one from the family (online or publicly, anyway) involved in attempting to identify her.
In fact, shockingly few people have come forward to say they even KNEW her, at any point, even distantly, and those very who have (i.e. a user called s/s1988) have been unverifiable, vague, have posted once or twice to say they knew her and then disappeared, or have never posted but may have had a bit of dialogue with some of the most dedicated Webleuthers. But anyway, no one who knew her, nevermind family, is actively involved in attempting to solve her identity. Not online, anyway.
Back to the Ruffs..the indication has been that they had a fairly broken relationship & that the family leans more towards wanting to put it behind them. It has often been suggested that the family may know more than they've made public. That's speculation. Really honestly, they just seem to be very private people, probably concerned about their reputation and much less than thrilled about this dark spot in their family's history. My gut instinct is that they just want it to disappear.
I'm probably way behind on this - just noticed the message left on her Find-A-Grave last May:
"I will never forget you, or 1988. Sorry for the delay, I just figured out it was you. My prayers are with your Husband and child.

That confirms my impression that LEK was not a likable person. Not to say unpleasant, but definitely distant & with few if any friends. So the people who drop in to say they knew her probably are embarrassed that when pressed for details they can't say anything positive about her or add anything to her profile. (But even the fact that she was distant or hard to like would be helpful.)
That would be the easiest response to this mystery in their lives. Probably once they knew she wasn't a criminal (or a spy) living under a false name, they concluded she was a woman who had run away from an unpleasant situation & lost further interest.
Of course, once her daughter comes of age, she'll likely want to know more. Children tend to be like that, curious about their parents.
